[051803cargile.jpg] Elaine Cargile Odessa Elaine Louise Cargile, devoted wife, loving mother, sister, grandmother and wonderful friend passed away Friday, May 16, 2003 at Hospice House. Encircled by the warmth and love of her family, she surrendered her long battle with cancer and went home to be with God. Elaine, 74, was born April 8, 1929, in Washburn, Mo., to Frederick and Myrtle (Watson) Daniels. She grew up in Washburn and married Gerald Cargile on December 14, 1946. In 1954 Elaine, Gerald and daughter Peggy journeyed to Texas to begin the next chapter of their lives. In 1957, they welcomed a son, Mickey, into the family and a few short months later the family settled in Odessa. Elaine was an active farmers wife and was dedicated to her family. Her days were filled with caring for her family, her pets and livestock, bird watching, gardening, quilting, baking, scrapbooking and sewing. Elaine had a keen interest in science and was an avid follower of the NASA Space Program from its inception. She also had an enduring love of her country and expressed her patriotism in many ways. The Fourth of July was one of her favorite days to celebrate with friends and family. Elaine possessed a kind and gentle soul and always found the good in others. She will be forever loved and greatly missed. Her parents, sister, Pauline Sisco and brother Robert Daniels preceded her in death. Al went home to be with the Lord on May 9, 2003 after a courageous battle with M.S. He was born May 9, 1954, in Arkansas, Kansas, to Bruce and Marion Johnson. He is survived by his mother, Marion of Edmond, Okla.; two daughters and son-in-law, Shelly Johnson of Odessa and Heather and Shay Gillham of Odessa; two grandchildren, Sara and Kaitlin; his sister, Linda Ball; and niece, Shana Myers. Clydel Chapman officiating. He married Inez Walker on Oct. 1, 1949, in Corpus Christi. He grew up in Corpus Christi, went to Spartan School of Avionics in Tulsa, OK and attended Delmar Junior College. He served his country in the Navy, during in WW II and Korean War. He has been a resident of Odessa for fifty-one years and a member of Second Baptist Church. Kenneth was an oilfield supply salesman and worked for Engine Service and Supply for thirty-eight years, retired in 1989. He enjoyed woodworking at his shop in his backyard. Interment will be at Crane Cemetery in Crane. Sybil, age 76, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital. She was born January 7, 1927, in Caddo, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. D H. Edwards; her brother, Alfred Edwards; her two sisters, Lois McGhee and Daisy Edwards. She graduated from lraan High School in the mid 40s and received her bachelor of science degree in chemistry from Texas Tech in the early 60s. She was employed by Shell Oil Co. and then retired from Medical Center Hospital. After her retirement, she worked with numerous Permian Basin area physicians, clinics and hospitals. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Odessa and was actively involved in their mission programs, including Mission Odessa, which, besides her family, was the most important area of her life. She was a member of the Disaster Team for the Red Cross, having participated in rescue efforts in Puerto Rico for Hurricane Mitch and S. Carolina with Hurricane Floyd. Survivors include her brother, Aubrey Edwards and wife, Charlet, of San Angelo, Texas; her sister, Jackie Thompson and husband, Bill, of Midland, Texas; and sister-in-law, Frances Edwards of Arlington, Texas; three generations of nieces and nephews. Faye was born in Ricardo, N.M., August 12, 1918, to James Monroe and Ola Mary Vaughn. She was preceded in death by her first husband, L.D. Parker, 1952, and Arlo Fanning, 1999; one son, Lynn Dwayne Parker, 1984; her parents, James Monroe and Ola Mary Vaughn; one brother, Charles Lester Vaughn; one half-brother, Homer Vaughn; and two half-sisters, Ima and Pearl. Faye and her first husband, L.D. Parker, and their two children, Joyce and Dwayne, moved from Lubbock, Texas, to Crane in 1946, to manage Holmans Grocery Store. In 1951, they became the proud parents of twin girls, Donna Sue and Vonna Lou. Besides being a loving mother, wife and friend, she had many accomplishments to her credit. Faye was a member of the Rebecca Lodge and served as the first woman board member of the Crane County Chamber of Commerce. She was elected as County Treasurer in 1955 and held that office until she retired in 1977. She will always be remembered for the honesty and integrity that she brought to Crane County during the 22 years of service. She enjoyed being a member of the Senior Citizens, bowling, being the #1 Dallas Cowboy Fan on the planet and in her younger years, playing shortstop in the womens softball leagues in Lubbock and Crane. She was a member of First Baptist Church. Willie Ruth Swoopes Houston departed this earthly life May 6, 2003, at the Community General Osteopathic Hospital in Harrisburg, Pa. She was born September 2, 1931, in Lott, Texas, to Mr. Mack Swoopes Sr. and Mrs. Inez Truesdale Swoopes. She grew up in Odessa with four sisters: Verna Mae Hawkins and Vinnie Jean Bledsoe (deceased), Billie Swoopes and Jackie Hammond of Odessa; two brothers, Essie D. Swoopes (deceased) and Mack Swoopes Jr. of Odessa; and one aunt, Freddie B. Truesdale Taylor of Dallas; and two uncles, James Truesdale of Lott and William Swoopes of Liberty, Mo., just preceded her in death. Willie Ruth received education from Ector County Independent Schools. She later attended Samuel Houston College in Austin. She moved to Harrisburg, Pa., in the late fifties. There she met and married the late George W. Houston. She loved gardening, traveling and cooking. A lover of people, she was a great conversationalist. In her spare time, she volunteered her services to the St. Francis of Assisi Soup Kitchen. Mitzel officiating. [052003eric.jpg] Eric Anthony Tony McGee Eric Anthony Tony McGee, 39, died Sunday, May 18, 2003, in North Richland Hills after a courageous battle with cancer. Tony as his family affectionately called him, was surrounded by his family at the time of his death. Eric Anthony McGee was born on April 8, 1964, in Odessa to Virgil R. and Mary Ruth Apple McGee, both of whom are deceased. Tony served in the US Navy for eight years, and traveled to various places throughout the world. Following the events of September 11, 2001, Tony re-enlisted in the Navy reserves. He had hoped to serve his country once again, unfortunately his illness prevented him from doing so. Tony was a 12-year employee with Xerox and a member of Springtown Church of Christ. Tony was a multi-champion Go-Kart racer in both Sprint and Road Racing. He was preceded in death by a brother, David McGee, and a nephew, Don Baugh. Military graveside services in his honor will be at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 22, 2003, at the Rose Hill Cemetery in Odessa. Dear friends Joe Romero and Jaime Berryhill will officiate. Honored to bear the remains of their dear friend will be Bob Richardson, Michael Ayres, Jesus Cordero, Don Cox, Wesley Ashley, and Benny Hernandez. Dick was born to Ruby (George) and Albert Henry Bethea on August 23, 1920 in Banks, Arkansas. He married Odelle Smith of Woodsboro, Texas. On May 20, 1968, Dick married Maxine Laverne Rich Watts. Known as Dixie to his service buddies, Mr. Bethea loved his country and was proud to be able to serve in the United States Army from 1940-1945. During WWII, he served in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe. He was wounded in the Battle of the Bulge and, under General Patton, was blessed to have a part in freeing Jewish prisoners from Buchenwald prison. His many decorations and citations include the ETO Ribbon, 5 Bronze Stars, The American Theater Ribbon, The Good Conduct Medal and the Victory Medal. His most challenging duty during his service was with the 341st engineers D Company which had part in construction of the Alcan Highway. His patriotism and loyalty to his country and fellow servicemen remained unmatched throughout his life. Following his Army career, Dick Bethea found a love for the oilfield. He said that the sound of those drilling rigs was like music to him. He was employed by Rocky Mountain Natural Gas Co., Santa Fe Drilling, Southeastern Drilling, Tmbr Sharp Drilling and worked in oilfields of 8 foreign countries. Dick was a life member of the VFW and DAV. He enjoyed woodworking and repairing anything mechanical. Dick loved the LORD. He was baptized in the 7th Day Adventist Church and joined the 7th Day Church of God and attended home Bible and Torah study groups. Mr Bethea was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Faye McKinney and Arlene Vickers. He is survived by his devoted wife, Maxine; sons, Albert D Bethea of Luling, Texas, Billy R. This kind and gentle woman, whose love radiated over all who knew her, will remain forever in our hearts and memories. Laura Jeanette Johnson was born July 15, 1912, in Tocopolo, Pontotoc County, Mississippi, the second child of the Reverend John Gary Johnson and Emma Viola Lamb Johnson. She lived her early years in the vicinity of Tomnolen and Eupora, Mississippi, where her father was pastor of Lebanon Methodist Church, founded by her great great great grandfather, Nicholas Lamb, in 1860. She became a devout Christian at an early age and remained so the rest of her life. In 1928, at the age of 16 years, she moved to Texas with her family, living in Colorado City, Aspermont and Breckenridge. She attended school in Wayland and Breckenridge, where she was a jump center on the Buckarette basketball team. She graduated from Breckenridge High School in the spring of 1930. On October 25, 1930, she married John Royce Perry at the home of her parents in Breckenridge with her father performing the wedding ceremony. The couple began their life together in Wayland, living there until 1936. The dark days of the depression caused them to seek fortune in the oilfields of New Mexico and West Texas and so, in 1936, they moved their young family to Hobbs, then to Wink and Monahans, finally settling in Odessa in 1939 where they were to remain except for two years during World War II. On October 25, 2002, she, with her husband and family, celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary. She was a long-time member of Highland United Methodist Church and the Order of The Eastern Star. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and today we celebrate her life and the blessings of her presence in ours. Our hearts are heavy with the sadness that comes with the loss of a loved one, but we rejoice in the knowledge that God has called her home to hear those cherished words from the Master Your work is finished. Midland, Texas. Daniel Ray McCarthy, 80, was called to be with the Lord early Saturday morning, May 17. D. Ray was born September 27, 1922, in Sidney in Comanche County, Texas, where he was reared and graduated high school. Ray came to know the Lord as his savior at the age of 12. He married Lelia Coreta Holden on April 18, 1942, in Odessa, Texas. Ray joined the Army of the United States in November of 1942, completing service in Europe during World War II as a fighter pilot. Ray returned to active duty during the Korean War in the Air Force and trained fighter pilots. He returned to the reserves and retired as Major Daniel R. McCarthy, USAFR in 1982. D. Ray moved to Midland in 1946 and was widely known as a master builder of custom homes and buildings until he retired in 1986. Many people knew Ray for his hobby of repairing TVs and other small electronic equipment. Ray was preceded in death by his wife, Coreta McCarthy, his father, his mother, his brother and one sister. Survivors include three daughters, Rita Rae Mauldin of Gordon, Texas, Kay Stephens of Little Rock, Ark., Ginger Chick of Stamford, Conn.; along with two grandsons, Steven Mauldin and Mark Mauldin; and two granddaughters, Debra Mauldin and Karen Thomas; and two sisters, Flora Gene Farr and Katherine Rhodes, both of Abilene, Texas, as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews. Ray will be remember as an example of a life lived for Christ. Covington ODESSA Robert Bob Lewis Covington, 76, passed away Sunday, May 18, 2003, at Medical Center Hospital due to heart failure. He was born September 18, 1926, in Coalgate, Okla., to Sam Houston and Mary Cecil Covington. Bob grew up in Coalgate, Okla., hunting and fishing with his Dad. In 1944 he joined the Navy, serving two years as a specialist G (aviation gunnery instructor), after his discharge and shortly after his fathers death, he and his mother and sister moved to Oklahoma City. He graduated from Oklahoma University in 1952 with a degree in architecture. While at O.U. Bob met Lea Rippy and they were marned in 1949 on the Bride and Groom Radio show in Hollywood California. After graduation Bob and Lea moved to Waco, Texas, where Bob worked for the firm of Easterwood and Easterwood. In 1958 the couple moved to Odessa. Bob became an associate in the firm of Frank Crockett and Associates. In 1961 Bob opened his own firm in the American Bank of Commerce Bldg. In 1964 the firm added two other architects, James H. Shelton and Charlie 0. Taylor, renaming the firm Covington, Shelton and Taylor. The firm designed numerous hospitals, school, churches and other commercial buildings within the West Texas area. Most familiar to Odessa residents is Covington and Taylors achievement of designing Ector County School District Ratliff Stadium. Bob retired in 1999. Bob was an active member in Odessas Downtown Rotary Club, serving as president in 1984-1985. Both Bob and Lea were Paul Hams Fellows. He and his wife helped establish and worked for five years with the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Program for young women. In 1998 Bob and Lea participated in a Rotary Friendship Exchange Program traveling to South Africa. He was also a member of the Sheriffs possee in the 1960s and a member of the Confederate Air Force. Bob loved raising horses, flying, and hunting, taking many hunting trips with family and friends. One never saw him without a Stetson on his head. As a architect, Bob was respected by fellow architects and builders as an distinctive, capable designer and a man of integrity. He was much loved by his family, He was a devoted and patient husband, father and grandfather, always there for any who needed him. He will be long remembered by all who knew and loved him. Survivors include her son, Rollie Murphy and his wife, Luciana, of Ropesville; three daughters, Patsy Harrell of Odessa, Joan Levens of Lubbock and Cassie Bryant and her husband, Larry, of Estherville, Iowa; one sister, Nancy Jo Beaver of Arizona; 14 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and one on the way. She is also survived by her domino buddies. She loved the many hours she spent with them. Lee was outgoing and truly loved people. She was an active member of the Sunset Church of Christ. Until her retirement, she worked for 20 years in the Santa Ana, California Public Library, and then she and Al moved to Lubbock in 1985. She thought Lubbock was the only place in the world to live. He was born June 17, 1920 to James and Helen Davis in Sonora. He was reared in Edwards County and served in the United States Navy during World War II, which also includes the infamous attack at Pearl Harbor. After the war, he returned to complete his college education at Texas A&M. Howard married Wanda Matthews on Sept. 28, 1946 in Rocksprings. They moved to Pecos where he was a cotton farmer and a rancher. Later he was elected county commissioner. When Howard and Wanda decided to retire they came back to the great Texas hill country. Howard is survived by his wife of 56 years, Wanda Davis of Rocksprings; son, Dennis Davis and wife Susan of Brandon, Miss.; daughters, Cathy Davis Moore of Dallas and Danndra and husband Eddie of Orange; grandchildren, Chad Davis, Drew, Sarah and James Davis, Misty and Matt Moore and Cody Commander; and great-granddaughter, Taylor Davis. Mrs. Davis had worked at the Village Shoe Store and was a hobby and craft counselor at the federal prison until her retirement. She was a member of the Senior Citizen Center and the Encourager Group. Mar Lou enjoyed ceramics and enjoyed teaching crafts. She had won several first place ribbons in local fairs and exhibitions. She loved her family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and loved family gatherings. Mar Lou was a charter member of the Hillcrest Baptist Church. "Dub," as he was known to family and friends, was born to Bill and Florene Loflin on March 26, 1946. A self-employed mechanic and tire man. Dub was always there to lend a helping hand and loved nothing better than to play cards; family gatherings and to spend time in the local coffee shops with friends. He is survived by three children; Eddie Loflin of Fayetteville, Tenn., Shawna Loflin of Hobbs, N.M., and Jennifer Bietten of Kentucky; sisters, Betty Loflin of Odessa and Shirley Wade of Seagoville; and brother, Richard Loflin of Abilene. Graveside services to follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery. [052503wright.jpg] Neil Morrison Wright KETCHUM, Idaho Neil Wright was born in Hobbs, N.M., the only son of Mardell and Andy Wright. He moved to Odessa when he was five and grew up there. He graduated from Odessa High School with Honors in 1952 and went to the University of Colorado, Boulder to study Architecture. From there he moved to San Francisco working as an architectural draftsman. When the opportunity arose to start his own architectural firm in Ketchum, Idaho, he jumped at the chance. He spent the next 35 years designing and building houses for people who often became friends after being clients. Throughout that time, he returned each year to visit his mother in Odessa until her death in 1991. He spent the last few years of his life in the lower altitudes of Northern California where the climate was easier on his lungs. He is survived by his daughter, Lydia; his son, Nye; and the buildings he designed in hopes of making other peoples lives better and happier. Services are entrusted to Hubbard-Kelly Funeral Home. Dr. Thomas L. Coats ALPINE Dr. Thomas L. Coats, 83, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2003, at Big Bend Regional Medical Center. Dr. Coats was born in Hamlin, Texas, on June 29, 1919, to Harold and Gay Coats. He was the second of nine children. He graduated from Texas Tech University and Northern Illinois College of Optometry, with additional training at the University of Houston School of Optometry. Shortly after graduation, he was called to serve his country. As a U.S. Navy aviator, he was sent to Alpine where he trained at Casparis Field. After serving in the Pacific, he returned to Otis Field in Falmouth, Mass., to train for the aircraft carrier, Enterprise (the Big E). There, he met and married Jane Ashley Coats in 1946. He served in the naval reserve and retired as a Lieutenant Commander. In 1947, they settled in Alpine and set up practice. He actively maintained his optometry practice for 55 years. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Rotary Club, American Legion, Republican Party and a charter member of the Alpine Country Club, serving continuously in each for more than 50 years. He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Coats; one grandson, John Coats; and a brother, David Coats. [052703king.jpg] Bob King ODESSA Bob King, 76, a 51-year resident of Odessa, passed away at Medical Center Hospital on Monday, May 26, 2003, after a prolonged illness. He is survived by his wife, Grace Thorman King, of Odessa. He was born in Fulbright, Texas, in Red River County on Feb. 2, 1927, to Norris Lee and Fern Edith Burrus King. He grew up in Sweetwater where he graduated from Newman High School. He attended one year of college at the University of Austin before joining the military during World War II. He served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army, 11th Airborne, from April 1945 until December 1946 and was stationed in the Pacific and Japan. After an honorable discharge, he attended Hardin Simmons College in Abilene and graduated with a business degree in 1952. While a student, he met Grace Thorman of Sweetwater when she was a co-ed at Abilene Christian College. On Nov. 6, 1953, they married at her aunt Mary Robertson Hudgins home in Sweetwater and immediately moved to Odessa where Bob was employed by Stanolind Oil and Gas Company. During his business career, Bob worked for Bankers Life Insurance Company and Curtis 1000, a national printing company, which assigned him a broad-based West Texas traveling territory. His longest association was with the Chancellor familys West Texas Office Supply and Santa Fe Contract Design. Poor health necessitated retirement in 1982 at age 55. Before retiring, he was active in the Downtown Lions Club. Bob loved to hunt and fish and was an avid outdoorsman. He was a lifetime member of the NRA. From the earliest days of Permian High Schools athletic program, he was a dedicated fan and Mojo Booster. As long as health permitted, he never missed a Permian game. Bob had a kind and sensitive personality and a soft heart for cats. There were always two feline family pets under his and Graces care. Other surviving members of his family are his sister, Pat Hawley, of Sweetwater; and sister-in-law, Vera Steele, of Fort Worth; three nephews and their wives, Brad and Angela Hawley of Austin, Bob and Vivian Steele of Fort Worth, and Gary and Glenna Steele of Arlington; two great-nephews, Yates Hawley and Carson Hawley of Austin; and three great-nieces, Emily Steele of Fort Worth, Kacy Steele and Taylor Steele, both of Arlington. Cleo Cordelia Richard ATOKA, Okla. Cleo Cordelia (Brown) Richard, age 93, of Atoka and former longtime resident of Odessa, Texas, passed away Sunday, May 25, 2003, at her residence in Atoka. She was born September 1, 1909, in Demossville, Ky., to Henry Thomas and Julia Frances (Birch) Brown. Cleo attended schools in Kentucky, Connecticut, Maine and Colorado. She graduated from nursing school. She worked over 40 years as a nurse in Odessa and Midland, Texas. She married Walter Paul Richard on March 24, 1933, at Yates Center, Kan. She was a member of the Faith Bible Church, Atoka, and the Yellow Rose Garden Club. She is survived by one son, John Richard and wife, Carolyn, of Atoka; granddaughters, Sabra Mathis and husband, Ray, of Marion, Ark., and Michelle Mace of Cedar City, Utah; great-grandchildren, Shalon Griggs of Arlington, Shea Mathis and Bailey Mathis, both of Marion, Ark., Joshua Mace, Cody Mace and Logan Mace, all of Cedar City, Utah; nieces, Barbara Hill of Lubbock and Sarah Hicks and husband, Howard, of Devine, Texas; nephew, Michael Brown of Odessa; and very special friend, Loretta Peacock of Atoka; along with numerous other relatives and many dear and loved friends. Nunez, 73, died Saturday, May 24, 2003, at Midland Memorial Hospital in Midland, Texas. Mrs. Nunez married Victor Nunez Sr. Jan. 8, 1949, in Odessa, Texas. Mrs. Nunez was a Catholic and a member of Carmelitas, Legion of Mary and the Catholic Women Organization from Odessa. Mrs. Nunez was born July 6, 1929, in Fort Stockton to father, Julio Nunez, and mother, Honorata Garza, who both preceded her in death. A rosary will be said at 7 p.m. today at Martinez Funeral Home with the Carmelitas Organization. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Joseph Catholic Church with Father Gilbert Rodriguez officiating. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Smith ODESSA Jewell Hester Walker Smith was born in the farm home of her grandparents near Bridgeport, Texas, on December 4, 1909, to John Wesley Walker and Elsie Elizabeth (Brewer) Walker. She passed away in Lubbock, Texas on May 25, 2003. She married Thomas Sweeten Bridges in 1927 and they had they had three sons: Howard Leon, John Thomas, and Donald Earl. After Toms death in 1932, she moved to Penwell, Texas, and was commissioned Postmaster by President Franklin D. Roosevelt, a position she held for 36 years before retiring in 1969. In 1936, Jewell married Hiram Smith; then the postmaster in the nearby town of Judkins. She and Hiram had one son, Jimmy Hiram, who now resides in Lubbock, Texas, with his wife Mary. One story that Jewell frequently told was the highlight of her career as Postmaster. In 1939, the National Association of Postmasters held their National Convention in Washington, D.C., She was privileged to attend this convention and was a guest of First Lady Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt at a Tea Mrs. Roosevelt hosted to honor all women Postmasters who were in attendance. She donated many of her memorabilia from the Penwell post office to the Million Barrel Museum in Monahans, Texas. After retiring, Jewell and Hiram moved to Odessa and became very active in their church, the Wesley Evangelical Methodist Church, where they were charter members. Always a highly motivated and active person, Jewell and her sister Vivian, attended Odessa College and earned their high school GEDs in 1974. Jewell subsequently took several college courses, including some in real estate. Jewell passed her real estate exam and worked as a Realtor in Odessa for almost 10 years. Jewell is preceded in death by her mother Elsie Elizabeth Brewer Walker, father John Wesley Walker, a sister: Willie Elvira Walker Barns, four brothers: Morgan R. Walker; James V. Walker; Eddie B. Walker; and Herman H. Walker, her first husband: Thomas S. Bridges, three sons Howard Leon Bridges, John Thomas Bridges and Donald Earl Bridges, and her second husband: Hiram R. Smith. She is survived by a sister, Vivian Evelyn Walker Shook of Odessa; son, Jimmy Hiram Smith of Lubbock; and daughters-in-Law, Irene Bridges, Betty Jean Bridges and Mary A. Smith. She leaves many loving relatives, including ten grandchildren and spouses, Charlene Alba, Martha and Hoppy Bedell, Mike and Judie Bridges, Zona and John Armijo, Johnny and Debra Bridges, Ronny and Cindy Bridges, Scott and Jamie Bridges, Christopher and Mary Smith, Jennifer and Jeff Manley, and Karen and Robert Granfeldt. He preceded her in death on February 20, 1999. She lived in Midland for four years. She was a Pink Lady in Jal, New Mexico, for eight years. Maggie loved quilting, sewing, and crocheting. She loved to play games of any kind. She loved her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was Church of Christ. Fondly known as Dr. Bill by those who knew him, he graduated from Terrell High School, where he was an All-Conference running back and member of the State Championship Terrell Tigers football team in 1954. An avid outdoorsman in his youth, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout. He graduated summa cum laude from Southern Methodist University in 1959, where he was President of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity chapter and one of legendary Professor Paul Jeskes boys. From SMU, he went on to become a general surgeon and family practitioner at the Alexander Hospital in Terrell, Texas, until 1969. He continued to practice medicine in Texas until the 1980s, when he completed a residency in psychiatry at St. Marys Hospital at Texas Tech University in Lubbock. He spent the the latter part of his career as a practicing psychiatrist in West Texas, until he retired in 2000. He was an avid golfer and his interest in World War II history led to a love of constructing and flying model airplanes. He will be remembered by patients for his great sense of humor and caring bedside manner. He is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Ruth Alexander, and his father, Gough Alexander Sr. He is survived by his children, William Alexander III, Erin Alexander Paisan, Ashley Alexander Mulligan and Joshua Alexander; his brother, Gough Alexander Jr.; his stepmother, Vivian Alexander; stepsisters, Viv Ann Blair and Judy Alexander; six grandchildren, Tate, Grace, Aidan and Riley Mulligan, Gabby and Isabelle Paisan; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Henderson was born on March 2, 1922, in Haylake, Briscoe County, Texas, to the late Bailey Henderson and Clara Vaughan Henderson. After graduating from Silverton High School, he married Marie Nance in 1942 in Plainview. She preceded him in death on February 2, 1989. He was also preceded in death by two grandsons. During WWII, he was a Marine on the USS Intrepid in the Pacific Theater. He married Lee Ella McCasland in November of 1989 in Lubbock. He was a cowman, a lifelong Democrat and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lockney. Survivors include his wife, Lee Ella Henderson; two sons, Don Henderson of Lockney and Randy Henderson and his wife, Nancy Jane Henderson, of Lockney; one daughter, Nancy Henderson of Odessa; one brother, Deanie Henderson of Plainview; two sisters, Oneta Rodgers of Plainview, LaJuan McCormick of Paris, Texas; three grandchildren, Chanda Lea Riney, Randi Jo Henderson and Hank Henderson; and two great-grandchildren.
