CURLIN FAMILY Jean Caddel Jesse H. Curlin and his family arrived in the Alma township, precinct No. 3, May 16, 1870. He was born ca 1829 in Henry County, Tennessee, the eldest son of Hugh and Phoebe (Jackson) Curlin, natives of North Carolina and Virginia. Hugh and Phoebe were married in Tennessee, and had eight children, only two of whom survived in 1892: Jesse and Mexico America, (widow of Wilson T. Curlin, deceased). In 1861, Hopkins Co. Tex., Jesse H. Curlin married Sarah E. McGill (b. Apr. 4, 1839 in Mississippi). In 1862 in Harrison Co. Tex., he enlisted in Love's regiment and assisted in guarding the prison at Marshall. He was a Democrat and member of the Farmer's Alliance. He and Sarah had eleven children 1. Margaret Lena, (b. Oct. 20, 1862, Marshall, Texas, married Martin Robert Whitfill 29 JUL 1884 in Corsicanna, Navarro Co., TX) 2. Thomas Hugh, (b. Mar. 3, 1864) 3. Joanna Lane, (b. Dec. 17, 1865, married Thomas Berry) 4. Phebe Jessie, (b. Feb. 17, 1867, married Lucas Mason) 5. Wilson Samuel, (b. Mar. 21, 1869, married Nancy Cave) 6. Jenny Juritha Jane Ford, b. Sep. 7, 1870, married Alonzo Rosson) 7. Mexico Ellis,(b. Apr. 7, 1873, married Harry Page) 8. Lilly Elizabeth, (b. Dec. 5, 1875, married George Champlin) 9. Rosa McClain, (b. May 10, 1877, married Henry Jinks of Rice. Henry was son of Tolliver & Olivia Harris Jinks - Taylor Co, GA)Rosa was his 2nd wife. Died: Mar 24, 1905 10. James Madison, (b. May 12, 1879; d. March 28, 1903; bur. Alma Cemetery) Died at 24 years of age. 11. William J. Gould, (b. Feb. 5, 1882). The last five children were born at Alma. J. H. Curlin died at Alma April 11, 1898, and his wife, Sarah, died Jan. 12, 1904. Both are buried near the front of Alma Cemetery. Alma Cemetery Burials: Curlin, J. H. b. unknown d. In 1870 he came to Ellis County. Jan 11, 1870, Thomas Smith and his second wife, Paralee, traded their home place on Willow Pond to Jesse Horace and Sarah Elizabeth McGill Curlin. Curlin, James b.
