Richmond brought his family from Michigan to Alma (Ellis Co) around 1876. Alonzo was born in  Nov 5, 1823 Leroy, Genesee County,New York , the son of David & Lois Piecer Stiles Richmond, and grandson of Preserved Richmond On  May 5, 1848 , Greenbush, Clinton, Michigan he married his 1st cousin, Lurinda, daughter of Alvah Mary B Watson Richmond and granddaughter of Preserved Richmond. They remained in NY and their children born there: Lyman M. (19 Apr 1849) Ella M.(b.15 Mar 1852) Ada J.  (b.31 Jan 1854); Edward R.  (b.16 Aug 1856 d.13 Jun 1862) Clara B.  (b.4 May 1862); N. Jay  (b.6 Dec 1868 Leonard F. (b.9 Feb 1870) The oldest daughter, Ella M. married Truman C.  Danford and probably remained in Michigan. Daughter, Ada J. not known if married. Son Edward R. died at age 6 in 1862. The 3 younger children, moved with their parents to Ellis Co. Lyman married Emma ? and their daughter, Mary, was born ca 1874 in Michigan. Their other children (Nina, Sadie, Trulia & George) were born in Texas and that is how we know that the family moved there around 1877 and would have been one of the earliest families. Both Richmond families appear in the 1880 Census in the Alma (Ellis Co) area, so we assume they settled there upon arrival. The rich, black land probably drew them, although farming in Texas would have been quite different from Michigan! These Richmond families were some of the earliest settlers farming in the Alma area. "E. A. Richmond, who came here in 1875. A. H. Richmond was the first man in this section to put up barbed wire fence, putting the barbs on by hand. This is in the Farmer school community."(Page 21...from Ellis Co. History published 1972 Ellis Co History Workshop Ref: Hawkins, Stone, Brookshire, Tolleson) Feb 5, 1881 Board of Trustees.
