George Tolliver Ruffin
(1875-1910)

G.T. was the 3rd child of Henry J. and Winnie Virginia "Jennie" Jinks Ruffin,
born in Taylor County, Georgia on May 31, 1875.

When his family moved to Alma (Ellis Co) TX in 1886, he was 11 years old. Their
family came with other relatives and friends.

He married Lula C. Fort on July 11, 1897.  Lula was from Kerens. Texas. She had
two  older brothers, Charlie and Richard, and a younger brother, Cerft, and
younger sister, Maggie. Her mother, Louisa, is a widow on the 1910 Ellis Co Census.

G.T. and Lula began housekeeping in a small house built on the west end of his
father's land in Alma.  

He was active in the Woodmen of the World Lodge in Alma.

Their children were:
1. Alvie Lee May 3, 1898 m. Iola Lennon (Lived in Alma)  WW I

2. Arthur W.  Feb 26, 1900   m.  Edna Clark  WW I

3. Winnie Lee Feb 12, 1902  m. John S. Rowe

4. G. (George) Clarence  1904   m. Bertha Lee

5. James Tolliver  "Pug" Oct 3, 1906 m. Afton Anderson (Lived Salt Lake City Utah)

We're not sure when G.T.'s health began to fail, but he developed a severe
pulmonary condition and for the last year of his life he was confined to his
room.  He died of consumption at 3pm on Friday, June 24, 1910...  only 34 years
old leaving a young widow with a very young family --- Alvie 12, Arthur 10,
Winnie 8, Clarence 6, and Pug only 4.  He is buried in the Ruffin plot in Rice
Cemetery with a Woodmen of the World monument.

Tragedy again struck when Lula died on Aug 27, 1912.  The children lived with
their grandparents and uncles and aunt.
