Tiebout Vernon J. and Ida Louise Tiebout came to Alma in 1879. They were a part of a group of French Acadians from Kankakee, Illinois. He became a prominent land owner. Around 1881 he helped establish the Post Office. A requirement for this was that the populations be 200.
