Tucker. 3rd Ward, precinct 6 Baldridge Feed Store, Mrs. J.P. Mann, Mrs. J.A. Hesser and Miss Ethel Banner. 4th Ward, precinct No 6 at Texas Midland Depot. Mrs. W.S. Martgin, Mrs. J.A. Hill and Mrs. J.A. Ware Mr. and Mrs. J.S. Love are moving to Alexandria, LA where he has been made superintendent for a life insurance company. Mrs. Love is a guest of Mrs. R.L. Fountain until about the middle of this week when she will go to Alexandria to join her husband who is already there. Their many friends regret to lose them from Ennis, but wish them well in their new home. Morris Works, who has been in West Point for two years, is here on a leave of absence to visit his mother, Mrs. P.B. Works Rev. and Mrs. R.R. Preddy of Rosser have moved to Ennis and now reside in the Paxton residence, corner of South McKinney and West Lampasas. G.A. Rumbo and children and his sister, Mrs. Mattie Allen, and son, Luther, have returned from a week in Williamson County, having made the trip by car. Mrs. E.I. Stapleton went to Corsicana to attend the burial of her daughter's father-in-law, Mr. George Puryear. Mrs. A.J. Cox and her sister, Mrs. J.C. Triplett, and their mothers, Mrs. Woosley, have returned from an extended visit at Blytheville, Ark. Mrs. B.H. Brewer spent the day in Alma Pinckard-Dupre Wedding Solemnized Mr. Evans Moore Pinckard and Miss Lulu Dupree happily united in Marriage Wednesday night One of the events of summer society of more than usual interest was the wedding uniting in marriage Miss Lulu Dupre of Dallas and Mr. Evans Moore Pinckard of Greenville last evening at 9 o'clock at the ome of Mr. and Mrs. John Louie Clarke, Rev. w.E. Brittain officiating with the ring ceremony. Wedding Guest Book: Miss Frankie Mims and Miss Ethel Banner. Miss Frances Baldridge and Miss Lillian Edwards, punch bowl. Preceding the ceremony, Mrs. G. Wallace Henry rendered the violin solo, "Mighy 'Lak' a Rose' with Mrs. James M. Baldridge as accompanist. Young ladies grouped at the top of the stairs sang the Bridal Chorus from the Rose Maiden by Cowan. Misses Bernadine Burkhead, Lesline Baldridge, Kathleen Regor, Fern Tate, Genevive Faulkner, Sophia Jolasch, May Logan Shipp, Maggie Lee Adams, Jewel Wheeler, Nina Abrams, Ina King, Gertrude Mann. Miss Pearl Roller toasted the bride; Miss Laura Meredith the bridegroom. Miss Dupre came to Texas from Tuskegee, Al, six years ago five years of which she has spent in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Clarke while teaching English in the high school. Dr. J.C. Loggins returned Sunday to Austin accompanied by Van Lee Blakey. Miss Ann McNamara died in Columbus, Ohio Funeral here Sunday Mr. D.B. McNamara is in receipt of a message announcing the death Thursday night in Columbus, Ohio of his niece, Ann McNamara. The remains were brought to Ennis for burial and was expected to arrive here Saturday at noon. The funeral was announced to take place from the McNamara home, corner of North Preston and West Tyler streets at 6 o'clock Sunday afternoon. Miss McNamara resided in Ennis up to two years ago and had many friends here who will be grieved to learn of her death. She was a sister of Dennie McNamara formerly of Ennis now of Muskogee, who was here for the funeral. A Morning Party. Miss Willie Mae Rowe, assisted by Mrs. T.O. Fountain entertained the Fidelis class, M.E. church Thursday morning at her home on West Knox street, at 9:30. Those present were Misses Emma Kate McElroy, Vivian Williams, Annie Mae McKenney, Elvie Boothe, Johnnie Long, Helen Donegan, Elizabeth Hines, Frances Hines, Bertha Sims, Jewel Sims, Genelia Lewis, Gertrude Carson, Mildred Bland, Dena Lohr, Sallie Mae Winfrey and Miss Leona Ficklin of Corsicana. Mr. and Mrs. R.A. Boothe had a telegram from their son, Lieut R.E. Boothe, stating that he had arrived oversease safely. A Club Picnic. A group of young girls who have designated themselved as the B.M. Club enjoyed an all day picnic Tuesday at Chautaqua Park in Waxahachie. Miss Mattie Fearis was chaperone to the fooliwng: Misses Elizabeth White, Johnnie long, Christine Anderson, Eloise Kimbell, Helen Donegan, Thelma Champion, Bertha Sims of Crisp, Elizabeth and Frances Hines of Alsfdorf. J.C. Malloy Died in Ferris Ferris, Texas July 26 1918 J.C. Malloy, who was born in Cheran, S.C. Jan 21, 1848 died here today. He came to Texas in 1867 and was married to Miss Emma Goble here in 1873. Funeral services will be hedl from the residence at 10 oi'clock Sunday morning. Mr. Malloy is survived by a widow and our daughters as follows: Mrs. A. Wilcher and Miss Lizzie Malloy of Ferris, Mrs. L.H. Orr of Haskell, OK, and Mrs. Ray Kooken of Celina, and four sons, S.A. and W.C. Malloy of Ferris; Coit Mlloy, US Navy and Allie B. Mally, US Navy, San Pedro CA. First Bale of the season sold in Ennis Saturday afternoon Ennis received her first bale of Cotton. It was brought in by R.C. Owen of the Rankin community, weighed 480 pounds and was ginned by John P. Boren. Mr. Boren bought the cotton at 31c per pound. Mr. Owen received a premium of $40 from the Ennis merchants in all the cotton and seed brought $218.80. This is the earliest ball of cotton every received in Ennis. Mrs. L.A. Daffan arrived Friday afternoon from Austin. Mrs. Daffan has fully recovered from her automobile accident and says she is delighted to be back in Ennis. She is at present at the King Hotel. Raymond Skrabanek of West is spending this week with his cousin Tommy Skrabanek. Thomas Shoes "The Government is asking retail dealers throughout the country to encourage the wearing of Low Shoes and thereby help conserve leather. Dr. O.C. Bowmer has received a telegram from the War Department confirming his appointment to a captaincy in the national army. Dr. was appointed several weeks ago and will probably join in a few weeks. Rice Rustler Baraca Class Entertained Mr. and Mrs. J.B. Murdoch entertained the Baraca class of the First Presbyterian church Thursday evening at their home 805 N. Preston Street. First Bale received here Saturday Anton Longer, who resides east of Rice on the line of Ellis and Navarro counties had a bale of cotton ginned at Rice, shipped to Corsicana and then to Ennis this morning, making the first bale received here this season. At last report it had not been sold. John P. Boren stated that he was expecting a bale at 2:30 this aftern, the first bale to come to an Ennis gin. Engineer Boothe was taken very sick last Thursday while on his run No. 16 and gave up his engine at Calvert, returning home on No 15 Engineer Santry carried the train to Houston. Mr. Boothe was able to be down town today to vote. G.L. Green who lives on the Parks school house road near town brought into our office this afternoon a half grown boll weevil, which he captured on a sunflower beside his cotton patch. Waxa. McMurray, C.B. Knight, T.S. Armstrong. Miss Helen McMurray has returned to her home in Paris after a pleasant visit in th ehome of Mr. and Mrs. J.R. McMurray. W.F. Orange, an employee of Callahan Construction Co who was engaged in some levee work on Trinity river east of Rice, had his right foot so badly mashed, about 1:30 pm Thurday that he was brought to McCall's santigarium here and at 3:30 the mashed foot was amputated above the ankle. It is stated that a big machine rolled over his foot, crushing it. Mr. Orange is married and resided in Rice. His family was with him here during the operaton. It is stated that he is doing nicely today. On Thursday afternoon Mrs. Chas McKinney was hostess to the W.C. T.U. ladies regular business. It adjourned in time for the Hobby club meeting. Mr. and Mrs. P.O. Hammond and baby, who have been guests of Mr. Hammond's mother, Mrs. R.R. Hammond, have returned to their home in Palestine. Mr. and Mrs. S.L. Wallace of Ennis have received notice from their son, Malcolm R. Wallace, that he has been promoted from corporal to sergeant in the quartermaster's corps at Camp Travis. Mr. and Mrs. J.M. Collins are improving their home at 206 W. Denton sstreet by the addition of new porches, new roof, etc. W.C. Lohr, father of Mrs. J.N. Goodwin, was quite ill during the night. Misses Minnie and Wille May Rowe and Mrs. J.B. Winfrey spent the day in the country. The one month old infant daughter, Lidia, of Mr. and Mrs. J.J. Vatek, who died Saturday was buried Sunday in the Catholic Cemetery. H.S. Fountain left on the Hustler for San Antonio to be with his son, Henry, who left last week with a number of other Ennis boys for Camp Travis. Henry is sick from the effects of serum administered to all before they enter the service. The following Negroes inducted by this board were entrained last night at 9:45 going to Camp Travis, J.Taylor, Palmer; Richard Johnson, Dallas; Ed Cox, Ennis; Efner Canidy, Bardwell; Suton James, Ennis; Cassidy Enge, listed as a deserter, was also entrained. Lightless night order. J.L. Clarke local fuel commmittee,am stated to the News that he was very much pleased to see that so many had complied with the government's orders regarding the use of lights. The lightless order will be in effect every Monday and Tuesday night, until further notice. Fulton - Mayo marriage Sunday afternoon Miss Leona Mayo and Mr. E.C. Wilson haas just sold to R.J. Caldwell, R.B. White, and Walter Earles 228 acres of fine black land four miles west of Ennis at $215 an acre or a total of $49,020. This includes the crop for this year and some tools and teams. Another big deal is that of G.G. and Floyd W. Dunkerley, who sold 1005 acres in Navarro Co for approximately $80,000 to Loop, Walker, and Harper of Rice. Two popular Ennis teachers married. Miss Katherine Buckalew and Mr. W.P. Fulton at the home of the bride's cousin in Fort Worth, owing to the illness of Miss Buckalew's sister in the Dallas Sanitarium. Parents are: Dr. and Mrs. Buckalew of Ennis. The bridegroom has been principal of the high school for a number of years. Honeymoon in Colorado; apartment in the home of Mrs. Josh Reagor. Julia Ransom and Joe Haraway married in Waxahachie Wed night at 10 o'clock at home of Dr. Horace Bishop. She is youngest daughter of Mrs. Cora Ransom. Jelk's Castellaw - Men's clothing Castellaw Drug Store Big Wholesale Grocery House comes to Ennis. Mr. J.B. Mayfield of Tyler and Mr. M.G. Mayfield of Terrell were in Ennis Tuesday and closed a lease on the new Pittman building as a new home for their ever growing wholesale grocery business. Wishing to honor Mrs. Clarinda Newton before she leaves for her home in San Antonio, Mrs. Thornwell Creighton entertaned a few guests with a deliciously prepared supper Saturday evening at her home 503 South Main Street. Covers were laid for the honor guest, Mrs. Newton, Rev. and Mrs. Herbert S. Springall and sons, Mrs. SS. Chambers, Mrs. Ellis and little grandchild, Ellis Harris, Mrs. E.A. Clarke, the hostess and son, James Creighton. A large number of negroes were in town all day Friday with the 171 who were being inducted into the army by the local board. That night the crowd increased and the whole town from the city hall to the railroad station and grounds were full of negroes to tell the soldiers goodby.
