An Interstate Commerce Commission hearing to discontinue has been set for October 4, 1940. Service, which connects Ennis with Dallas, consists of eleven round trips daily. The Texas Electric Railway will continue its regular schedule between Dallas, Waco and Denison, it is stated. In the application for authority to discontinue the service the federal cotton restriction plan was blamed for the decreased revenue. From 1929 to 1939 revenues fell from $346,890 to $94,233. Operation of the line began in October, 1913. At that time passenger service only was given. Later the railroad commission authorized freight service. James P. Griffin, president of the Texas Electric Company, said Tuesday he had not been informed of any change of plans for the hearing and that so far as he knew it would be held. "The railway has suffered considerable freight and apssenger revenue declines, " Mr. Griffin said. "The building of good automobiles and good roads on which to drive them has eaten into the revenue not only of the Texas Electric Railway, but also all rail carriers." Note: The first Interurban Car passed through Ennis Oct 18, 1913.
