The Country Aroused. Waxahachie, Tex Aug 12. One of the most heinous crimes ever committed in Ellis County was perpetrated in the Auburn neighborhood, about twelve miles south of Waxahachie this morning between 9 and 10 o'clock. The particulars as far as can be learned at this writing are as follows: Miss Lizzie Shippey, a young lady aged 17, dressed to attend church, but had to go about a quarter of a mile to a neighbor's house with whose family she was going to church some distance away. She started alone to the neighbor's but on the way and about 200 yards from home she met her cousin, Joe Shippey, aged about 28, when some think he assaulted and attempted to outrage her; others say he tried to persuade her to marry him, but on her refusal to comply with his demands, the circumstances show that a struggle ensued, where Shippey drew a 44 Colt's revolver and shot her three times. The first two shots only grazed her forehead and ear; and it seems she had started away from him when the third shot was fired, the ball taking effect in her back, and passing through her body, coming out just below the left nipply, killed her instantly. Two small boys heard the pistol shots and started in the direction of them, and as they came in sight Shippey fled, leaving one shoe and his hat behind. The two boys coming up, found the deat body and the young lady lying in the road with her hat and fan some distance away. The news of the crime rapidly spread through the neighborhood and soon over 100 armed men were scouring the country for the fiend. The officers were sent for to this place, who left with about twenty others for the scene of the crime so about 2 o'clock. Sheriff Ryburn secured two bloodhounds from a convict train and left here at 4 o'clock to trail him if possible. Great excitement prevails in the community and should Shippey be captured he will all probability be lynched. The father of the murdered young lady, E. N. Shippey, is a good citizen and thought well of by all, and Joe Shippey, the murdere, always had a good reputation. The country in which the murderer escaped is very thickly settled, and there are at this writing at least two hundred men searching for him and it is thought he will be captured before morning.
