W. Collard Funeral Tuesday Morning 10 o'clock [Feb 27, 1936] G.W. Collard, 59, formerly postmaster and agent for the Texas Electric Railway in Alma for many years, died Saturday morning at 8 o'clock in St. Pauls' Hospital in Dallas, where he was taken five weeks ago for medical treatment. J.E. Keever went to Dallas for the boyd and it was taken to his home in Alma where it will remain until time for funeral servies which will be held in St. Vincent de Paul Church. George Washington Collard was born in West Clifton, Kentucky, October 18, 1876 and came to Texas with his brother, Louis Collard, thirty-eight years ago. They settled in Alma where they have resided since that time. For many years Mr. Collard served as postmaster and agent for the Texas Electric Railway. He was married in 1900 to Miss Sallie Ruffin of Alma, who with six sons, survives. The sons are Clyde Collard of Long Beach, California, who is en route to Ennis; Frank, Hugh, Hatton and Edward Collard of Alma and Theodore Collard of Cincinnati, Ohio. Also two brothers survive, Louis Collard of Ennis and Frank Collard of West Clifton, KY and three sisters, Mrs. Frank Grant and Mrs. Will Clark, both of Louisville, KY and Mrs. J. C. Montgomery, Big Clifton, KY. Funeral services will be held at St. Vincent de Paul Church in Alma with the pastor, Rev. Monsignors F. Graffeo of Corsicana officiating. Interment will be made in the Rice Cemetery with J.E. Keever in charge of arrangements. Additional Comments: George Washington Collard married Sallie Lee Ruffin Sept 20, 1899. He was born Oct 18, 1876 in West Clifty (Grayson Co) Kentucky. He and his older brother, Lewis, had come to Alma around 1898. Their uncle was Williiam Whitfill one of the first arrivals to Alma from Kentucky.
