Collard Is Laid to Rest [Feb 16, 1960] Funeral services for Mrs. G.W. Collard, 78, who died Tuesday morning at Kerrville will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Bunch Funeratl Chapel, with burial following in Rice Cemetery. Rites will be conducted by Rev. Wallace N. Dunson. Born May 28, 1881 in Georgia [Taylor County], Mrs. Collard lived most of her life in the Alma Community, near here. She was a member of the Methodist Church. Surviving Mrs. Collard are four sons: Hugh Collard of Ennis and Dallas; Hatton Collard, Ennis; Theodore Collard of Arlington, and Frank Collard of Paul's Valley, Okla. She also leaves a brother, Rupert Ruffin of Sherman and 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Mr. Collard died Feb 29, 1936 NOTES: Sally Lee Ruffin Collard was the 6th child (2nd daughter) of Henry J. and W. Virginia Jinks Ruffin. She came with her family from Taylor County, Georgia to Alma Texas around 1886. She married George Collard Sept 20, 1899. Her life was a tragic one. She lost two young sons to diphtheria in 1904 (both of them dying on the same day), her daughter, Genevieve died at age 19, and her youngest son, Edward, died in WW II in Australia. Additional Comments: George Washington Collard married Sallie Lee Ruffin Sept 20, 1899. He was born Oct 18, 1876 in West Clifty (Grayson Co) Kentucky. He and his older brother, Lewis, had come to Alma around 1898. Their uncle was Williiam Whitfill one of the first arrivals to Alma from Kentucky.
