DIED, - Mrs. C.H. McAdams, wife of William McAdams, of Perry county, Alabama, died March 15th, 1887, at her son's near Bristol, Ellis county Texas, age 68 years. In five brief days her physical [p]owers succumbed to the ravages of disease, but death had no teror [sic] for her, she met its demands with calm confidence in her Savior, which scattered all the gloom. She talked but little during her sickness, she told those around her she was going to die, but all was well, she was going home to her dear companion, mother and all the dear friends that have gone before. We all stand with aching hearts and a broken chain, almost refusing to believe the shining link is gone. In all things good our beloved mother was first to see the way and walk therein. Her noble and patient life was an example to us all. Although deprived of her dear husband, her earthly guiding star for thirty-eight long years, she was never heard to murmur, having the right ideal of a true woman, raised to the highest pinnacle, she ever strove to reach that goal. She became a christian in early life and united with the Missionary Baptist church. By a christian mothers influence and prayers, she saw her four children added to the church of her choice. She loved her church and was always ready to do what she could, to promote its growth but no more will we meet her approving smile. I grieve to think how many eyes will grow dim when these lines are read. But grieve not loved ones she is not lost, but gone before to the christians bright home above. And while there is a void in our hearts when we feel she is gone, still our hearts burn within us, for we have another tie drawing us heavenward, knowing that when we are called, one more friend will be waiting to greet us. Yes dear mother, WE hope to meet thee again in the City of our God. We know that she is happy, With her angle [sic] plumage on, Yet it fills our hearts with sadness, To know that she is gone. R.E. McADAMS. Additional Comments: Obituaries from the Scrapbook of Belle Mills This scrapbook is now in possession of Mrs. Frankie Mills, the widow of Mr. George Mills, who was the nephew of Belle Mills. It is to Mrs. Frankie that I owe thanks for these treasures! Most of these obituaries (which are clippings) have no dates on them. They were probably taken from the Monroe News, Monroe, LA, one of the parent newspapers of the modern News-Star or the Progressive Age, a Ruston, LA paper. Most date from the 1890-1910 years, which are now lost to time. These newspapers were never preserved. That makes these obituaries even more valuable to researchers. This was the only Ellis County Obituary in the collection.
