Ruffin Died At Home in Alma Buried in Rice [Sept 27, 1930] Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock for E.C. Ruffin, aged 59 years, who died Saturday afternoon at 4 o'clock at his home at Alma, following a long illness, cause by cancer of the stomach. Rev. H.C. Bowman, pastor of the First Methodist Church at Rice, conducted the services. Burial was made in the cemetery beside the body of his wife, who died many years ago. [Note: wife Louella is buried in the oldest section of Rice Cemetery. E.C. is buried beside his father and mother (H.J. & W.V. Ruffin) in the Ruffin plot] Active pall bearers were his nephews, Frank and Hugh Collard, Jack and Cecil Ruffin, William Hunter Carnes, A.L. Ruffin. J.E. Keever mortician, had charge of the funeral arrangements. Surviving is one daughter, Mrs. Andrew May of Goose Creek, four brothers, Claude J. Ruffin, Ennis; Willis Ruffin, Alma; Ruppert Ruffin, Howe; Till Ruffin, Durant, OK; two sisters, Mrs. Mattie Sands and Mrs. George Collard of Alma. NOTE: Elem Castroe (always called E.C. or "Bud" was the 2nd child of Henry J. and Winnie Virginia Jinks Ruffin. He was born Dec 21, 1871 in Taylor County, Georgia and moved with his family to Alma, (Ellis County) E.C. married Sept 19, 1894 Louella Calhoun. (by Rev. Geo S. Clark, M.E. Church South, Rice). They had one child, Dovie Lee born July 14, 1895. Louella died Dec 23, 1869....Dovie was just 4 1/2 months old. She was cared for by her Ruffin Grandparents.
