Whitfill Age 80, Died at Alma Friday Martin Robert Whitfill, 80, died at his home in Alma Friday afternoon at 4:40 o'clock, following a brief illness. Mr. Whitfill was born July 15, 1860 at Big Clifty, KY and came to Texas with his parents William and Margaret Durbin Whitfill in 1875. They first settled in Johnson county, but in two years moved to a farm at Alma. Mr. Whitfill was engaged for a time in farming and married Miss Margaret Lena Curlin also a member of a Texas pioneer family, July 29, 1884 at the Immaculate Conception Church in Corsicana by Father Theon. He later owned and operated a store in Alma for fifty years until he moved to Lockney, Floyd county, where he became a large land owner. Mr. Whitfill returned to Alma in 1930 and made his home there until his death. He is widely known throughout the state and is survived by his wife, three sons and five daughters. Seven of them were with him and a son, Festus Whitfill of Lockney, who has been ill, will arrive. The children are J. R. Whitfill of Pottsboro, J.W. Whitfill of Phoenix, AZ, Festus Whitfill, Mrs. J.R. Langley, and Mrs. R. C. Wilson of Lockney, Mrs. C.L. Simmons of Kermit and Mrs. S.A. Whitfill and Mrs. R.M. Whitfill of Alma. He is also survived by two brothers, Ben Whitfill of Lockney and Louis Whitfill of Ardmore, OK; three sisters, Mrs. Rebecca Newman of Washington DC, Mrs. Mary Rutherford of Rice and Mrs. Druscilla Harrell of Alma. Mr. Whitfill is also survived by forty-five grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at the St. Vincent de Paul Church in Alma at 9 o'clock Monday morning with Monsigner V. Graffeo officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's cemetery in Ennis with H.C. Wippern in charge of arrangements. ============= Last Sad Rites For M. Whitfill Held This Morning Funeral services for M. Whitfill were held at Alma at 9 o'clock at the St. Vincent de Paul Church on Monday morning with Monsignor V. Graffeo officiating. Interment was made in the St. Joseph's cemetery at Ennis with H.C. Wippern in charge. Pallbearers were Mr. Whitfill's grandsons, Kenneth Whitfill of College Station, Leslie Whitfill of Phoenix, Ariz, James Simmons of Kermit, Linton Whitfill, James Whitfill, and Wendell Whitfill of Alma. Out of town relatives and friends here for the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Whitfill of plainview; Mrs. Mary Rutherford of Rice; J.W. Whitfill and Leslie Whitfill of Phoenix, Ariz; Mr. and Mrs. C.L. Simmons, James and Kenneth Simmons of Kermit, J.R. Whitfill, Billie Joe, Ray and Jerry of Pottsboro; Mr. and Mrs. Ted Romain of Denton, Mrs. R.C. Wilson, Mrs. J.R. Langley and Cecilia Langley, Festus Whitfill and Mr. and Mrs. D.V. Whitfill and Margaret of Lockney; Elisha Durbin of Rice, Miss Adele Whitfill, Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Whitfill of Fort Worth, Mrs. J.C. Dale, Mrs. Joe D. wright, Mr. and mrs.
