These are photographs of Elizabeth "Bessie" Lethella Howell when she first 
started teaching school in west Texas. She had received her teacher's 
certificate from Sam Houston State University, as it is now called. 
She later graduated from Baylor University.

She is seated, wearing a white dress, with her hands crossed in the lower 
photograph.

She later married Roy Elmer Beck and taught at North Waco Elementary School 
until her retirement.
