To any Judge of the county or district court, regularly licensed or ordained
minister of the gospel, Jewish Rabbi, or Justice of the Peace in and for said
County of Ellis - Greeting

You are hereby authorized to solemnize the Rites of Matrimony between

Mr. W. H. Ruffin and Miss Laura Whitfill and make due return to the Clerk of the
County Court of said County within sixt days thereafter, certifying you action
under this License.

Witnes my official signature and seal of office at Waxahachie this 22 day of
April A.D. 1903.

I, Rev. J.F. Hughes hereby certify that on the 23 day of April AD 1903 I united
in marriage Mr. W.H. Ruffin and Miss Laura Whitfill the parties above named.

Additional Comments:
William Harrison was the son of Henry J. and Winnie Virginia Jinks Ruffin.  He
was born May 3, 1879.  

Laura Whitfill was born Mar 11, 1884, daughter of Benjamin B and Delima Whitfill. 

The Whitfills were from Kentucky and early settlers in Alma by 1883. They were
Roman Catholic and the Ruffins were Methodist.

Family legend says that Laura had been sent away to a Catholic Boarding School
to keep her from marrying Harrison, but when her mother , Delima, died, Laura
came back and married him anyway.

Rev. J. F. Hughes, may have been Baptist.  He also married Allen Tillman Ruffin
(Nov 1903)
