Shortly afterwards Mr. Bull donated some of the land to El Paso County for use as a paupers cemetery. Over the years the cemetery has undergone several ownership changes and several sections have been replatted. I have had requests from all over the world for help in locating loved ones' final resting places. Some of the times I could help, other times to no avail. While doing my "walk throughs" at the cemetery, I have always done so with a reverent attitude, and used respect for all interred souls. Whenever some folks were visiting the internments, I would usually move to another area so as not to disturb them. I feel that I have left each grave in at least the same shape it was in, if not better than before. I have not used abrasives of any kind to clean the headstones, only a whiskbroom or a soft cloth to make the inscription readable. In most cases even this was not necessary. On many occasions I have pulled weeds or grass away from the headstone to allow me to read the inscription. If I removed any decorations or floral arrangements I carefully replaced them after I was done. I have done my best to accurately record the internments. I am sure that there are mistakes. If found, I would appreciate being informed. I will make corrections. Often a headstone will not have the correct name; in this case I feel that the legal information should be used. i.e., Johnny Brown or John Brown. When used, Sexton records are supposed to be correct. Many times I have used the El Paso County death records website for assistance. That website address is: http://www.epcounty.com/clerk/deaths.htm I have also used that website to give a date of death or name spelling if I am unsure. When a person's date of death is not given, it means that the DOD is unknown, or that persons name is on the same headstone with another family member who is deceased. i.e., Husband is deceased while wife is still living. ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS I would like to thank the office staff of Restlawn Memorial Park that existed prior to 2003. Until then, I was granted full access to all Sexton records and was even assisted by the office staff. Since that time, I have had to use headstone information and obituary notices only. I would like to thank Mr. Joe Carter of the Restlawn staff whose knowledge about the cemetery is amazing. I would like to thank my wife Marilyn Kae Bowman whose computer expertise really helped me set up a spread sheet for all of the data. When I started this task in 1999, I was (and still am) a computer novice, so she really saved my skin, and she is still helping me a lot. I would also like to thank the maintenance crew at Restlawn; they helped me many times. These records have been compiled through August 1, 2007. ============================================================================================================================== USGenWeb NOTICE: All documents placed in the USGenWeb Archives remain the property of the contributors, who retain publication rights in accordance with US Copyright Laws and Regulations.
