PETERSEN, JO ANN ROTHBARDT 43, passed away in Dallas on Friday, June 29, 001. She was born in El Paso and was a resident of Dallas for 23 years. Jo Ann was a 1976 graduate of Coronado High School and attended the University of Texas at Austin. Jo Ann worked for Southland Corporation for 23 years where she was a Field Consultant. Jo Ann's smile was her trademark, and she inspired all who knew her with her deter-mination and courage. Jo Ann actively supported the American Cancer Society's "Look Good, Feel Good" program by donating her time to help others maintain their dignity while battling cancer. Jo Ann is survived by Allan Petersen, her devoted husband of 23 years; her mother, Judy Rothbardt; her sister, Ellen Gulbas and husband, Paul; her brother, David Rothbardt and wife D'Anne of Foley, Alabama; and her grandmother, Maxine Bromberg of Chesterfield, Missouri. June 29. 2001 at William Beaumont Army Medical Center. He was born May 18, 1922 in Sierra Blanca, Texas and was a resident of El Paso for the past sixty years. Mr. Ramirez served in the U.S. Army during WWII and participated in the Normandy Invasion landing on Omaha Beach on D plus one. He was assigned to the 110th Infantry Regiment 28 Division. He was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in the Battle of the Bulge. He retired from civil service at White Sands Missle Range and the Texas National Guard after 30 years of service. Mr. Ramirez was an active member and officer of numerous military, religious, social service and political organizations. He was preceded in death by his wife Clotilde and parents Marcolfa Yglesias and Felix Sosa Ramirez, twin brother Felix and sister Luisa Madeza. Mr. Ramirez is survived by three daughters Clotilde Ramirez O'Hare, Carmen C. Ramirez Kaplan and Socorro Ramirez Williams, three sons Jose Antonio Ramirez, Miguel E. Ramirez and David L. Ramirez. Mrs. Adame served her country honorably in the United States Army and at the time of her death was employed with the City of Las Cruces as a purchasing clerk. He was a World War II and Korean Conflict Veteran and was a recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Purple Heart. Graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with Bachelor and Master of Science degrees in Electrical Engineering and was a Licensed Professional Engineer. He was a life Senior Member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, life member of the Quarter Century Wireless Association and a founder and first president of its El Paso Chapter and was also a member of the El Paso Amateur Radio Club. Past president of Morris County NJ Engineers Club, former director of Civilian Defense Hanover Township, NJ, Veteran Life Member of Richard C. Troy was drafted into the Army on August 26, 1941. He volunteered for the Army Air Corps. He was assigned to the 5th Air Force, 22nd Bomb Group and flew in B24 bombers out of Australia and New Guinea as a radio gunner. He was awarded several medals for service to his country. After the war he retired to Texas, settling in El Paso where he worked for Bell Telephone Co. He married Catherine Marie Koenig on November 12, 1948. They began farming in the South Mesilla Valley. Troy was a successful farmer and a good steward of his land until his retirement in 1985. Troy is survived by his sons; Troy Eugene (wife Joyce) and Ronald (wife Nancy), seven grandchildren; Jon-Mark (wife Emily) Pettersen, Matt Pettersen, Tanya, Troy, Sara, Laura and Rebecca Watson, sister; Velda Cannon of Greenville, TX. and brother; Doyle of Ennis, TX. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brothers; Vernon and Paschal Watson and his wife; Catherine. Kevin passed away much too soon, he was the father of three lovely daughters and will be remembered as a devoted parent, loving husband, and someone who embraced life and experienced all the good that it offered. Second only to his love for his family, was his love for music. He graduated from the University of Texas at El Paso. Kevin shared his joy of this fine art with scores of central Texas children as a music teacher at several public school districts which include: Grosebeck, Center Pointe, Crawford, Bosqueville and most recently at Mart Elementary. His talent for music enabled him to play many different instruments such as the keyboard, bass guitar, tuba and the accordion. He used his fondness for the accordion to form the Steffek Polka Band, a family group that played at reunions and other special events. Kevin, in addition, to all his other activities was Choir Director at St. Eugene's Church in McGregor. His other interests included volunteering his time to help our community, exploring his Czech heritage, working with vintage John Deere tractors and gardening. He was preceded in death by his parents Ignac and Florence "Dipple" Steffek. During his lifetime, Jim made many, many friends where ever he went. Jim's passions in life included Harley Davidson Motor cylces, boat racing, drag racing, billiards and volleyball. He was a founding member of the Westside Scooter Trash club, was known as the king of bar games and enjoyed the ponies, spectator sports and the company of good friends. Born August 27, 1942, he was a lifelong El Pasoan who worked for its betterment in elected office and as a private citizen. O'Rourke served as County Commissioner from 1978-1982 and as County Judge from 1982-1986. As the county's chief executive, he was instrumental in he construction of the county jail, passage of the bond issue for Thomason Hospital, consolidation of the city and county tax offices and procurement of federal money for border health care. As a private citizen he influenced public discourse as an honest, critical voice, most recently on the stantonstreet.com website. His vision, energy and passion for El Paso will be remembered by those whose lives he touched. His love of the outdoors included camping trips throughout the southwest and bicycle trips that crossed the United States and Europe. He had resided in El Paso some 20 years with his wife, native El Pasoan Bidez Embry Moore, with whom he owned real estate, horticultural, and restaurant businesses. He was born in Omaha, Nebraska where he graduated from the University of Omaha and worked first as a journalist for the Omaha World Herald and later as the director of community programs for the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
