ANDERSON, MICHAEL JOHN "COACH ANDERSON", 51, passed away on Saturday, July 21, 2001. He was an 11 year resident of Chaparral, N.M. and a former resident of Galveston, Texas. He was a member of the Coaching Association of New Mexico and taught for 11 years at Santa Teresa High School. He was also the Varsity Offense Coordinator for 6 years at Santa Teresa High School, and Varsity Baseball coach for 8 years. His Baseball team received 1st Time Team All District Champs for Baseball in 1999. Coach Anderson graduated from Galveston Ball High School and also from U.T.E.P. where he played football. A 22 yr. resident of El Paso, Mr. Giugni was born and raised in Pearl City, Hawaii. As a young man he witnessed the bombing of Pearl Harbor. After graduating from Roosevelt High School, Hawaii, he served in the U.S. Army. Mr. Giugni attended St. Mary's College and graduated from the University of Portland (Oregon) where he was an outstanding college football athlete. While attending the University of Portland he met his wife of 49 years Carolyn Witteman Giugni. Mr. Giugni's federal career spanned four decades and included assignments with the Dept of Justice in California, Washington D.C., Dallas and El Paso. He was an avid golfer and had many musical talents. In addition to his wife, Carolyn, he is survived by his daughters Kathryn Newell and husband Marc Emral; Merry G. Henley and husband William, grandchildren, Hanna, Richard, and Samuel Newell, Alison and Michael Henley, his brother Henry K. Giugni and family. McPherson, Cleo Key born September 1, 1905 in McGregor, Texas passed away Sunday, July 22, 2001 at the age of 95. Mrs. McPherson was a resident of El Paso since 1942. She was a member of First Baptist Church for 59 years and also taught Sunday school there. Mrs. McPherson was past president of the YWCA and past president of the Delta Gamma Alumnae Association. RUSH, RAYMOND RODGER a resident of El Paso since 1976 after his retirement from Midland, Texas passed away on Friday, July 20, 2001 in a local hospital. Mr. Rush was born on November 17, 1911 in Selma, Indiana and was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. As a World War II Veteran he served as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Force. He traveled to Australia on the Queen Mary and was among the first of U.S. soldiers to land in New Guinea in the Pacific Theatre of World War II, where he served until July, 1944. He resumed his employment upon returning to the United States in the Oil and Gas Industry. He retired from Chevron Refinery as an Engineering Clerk on December 1, 1976. He is preceded in death by his wife of fifty years, Avis Rush. He was survived by his son, Ronald R. Rush and his daughter-in-law, Marina A. Rush; two grandsons, Mark Rush and Ryan Rush. S.J. died on Monday, July 23, 2001 at 12:30 AM at Ignatius Residence in New Orleans, LA. Age 81 years and a member of the Society of Jesus for 62 years and was ordained a priest 48 years ago at Spring Hill College, Mobile, AL. A native of Ft. Worth, Texas, Father was baptized at St. Mary's Italian Church, New Orleans, LA, after elementary and junior high school in San Antonio, Texas, he attended Warren Easton High School in New Orleans, graduating with honors in 1937 and receiving a scholarship to Loyola University. During his years as a priest he was assigned to Jesuit High Schools, Dallas, TX and Jesuit High School, El Paso, TX where he served as teacher and athletic director from 1959 to 1963. In the intervening years, he served in a variety of assignments in Louisiana, Texas and Puerto Rico. In his later years he was assistant pastor at St. Ann's, West Palm Beach, FL, Immaculate Conception (Jesuit), New Orleans, LA, The Gesu, Miami, FL. Survivors include his nephew Chris San Marco of Arabi, La and his cousins, Mr. and Mrs. Louis Guido of Rockport, TX. He was the son of R.D. and Annie Stewart and was one of eleven children. The family moved to Texas in 1923. He accepted Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord of his life at the age of seven. He married the love of his life, Reida Ann Roberts in 1942. Three sons- Frank II, Daniel and James were born into this loving home. Though Frank was a businessman, rancher and civic leader, his Christian commitment permeated all he did. He served as a deacon and music director at First Baptist and founded a Christian "Valley Choir." He established the first Gideon Camp in El Paso. He and his brother Jack, served as co-directors of the Easter Sunrise Service for many years. He was on the founding board of directors of Lee Moor Children's Home and also served on the board of Southwestern Children's Home and Providence Hospital. He is survived by his wife Reida, sons Frank and James, his beloved daughters- in-law Carolyn and Anne and six grandchildren- Frank III (Tres), Tim, Benjamin, Chris, Tiffany and David. He was a lifelong resident of El Paso with the exception of the WWII years where he proudly served the war effort as a welder in a west coast shipyard. His expertise earned the Army-Navy Production Award for contributions in building the arsenal of democracy for our Armed Forces. As should be evident particularly over the past decade to ensuing generations, he was a member of America's Greatest Generation..The men and women, now passing in ever greater numbers who prevailed through crushing depression days, CCC Camps, and a World War that tested their mettle and courage in historic displays of patriotism and sacrifice. Grandpa Joe was the epitome of hard work and family values. He joins Grandma Elvira Rivera Villescas, who preceded him in death after 53 years of blessed marriage. A father to be proud of, and a man to respect and emulate, he overcame extraordinary obstacles and thus inspired his children and grandchildren. A gifted artist and a talented singer, he elected family life and waived a promising professional singing career with the sweetest tenor voice imaginable. After a broad range of occupational endeavors, he excelled in sales for 35 years culminating in the founding of Villescas Real Estate until his retirement. He is survived by his devoted daughter Rosamaria Natividad and Nicolas, Jose R. Villescas, Jr. and Vilma, Carlos Rivera Villescas and Susan, Tomas V. Villescas and Yolie, and Gilbert Villescas. Grandfather's legacy will be carried forth by his 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. Passed away July 24, 2001 at the age of 63. Mr. Vasquez was a resident of El Paso, Texas since 1949. He was a member of the Catholic Church all of his life. Mr. Vasquez was a graduate of Jefferson High School in 1957. He was a standout in football for four years where he was All-District and captain of the football team, he was also a member of the Golden Gloves and was Heavyweight Champ, and Mr. Vasquez was also a member of the baseball team. Mr. Vasquez graduated from Western New Mexico University in 1962, with honors. He also played football while at WNMU where he was the Most Valuable Player in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference all four years of his college career, he was leading rusher in the Conference for four years. He was All American in his senior year of college. Mr. Vasquez was also inducted into the Western New Mexico University Hall of Fame in 1989 and his football number 44 has been retired. He was drafted by the Detroit Lions and received an offer from the Canadian Football League as well. Mr. Vasquez was a Varsity Football Coach at Jefferson High School in El Paso from 1966 through 1978. He was a Varsity Football Coach at Cobre High School in Bayard, New Mexico in 1978-79. He also coached at Silver City High School from 1980-82. He was a Varsity Football Coach at Crane High School in Crane, Texas from 1983-96. The family moved back to El Paso where he taught at Jefferson High School until his retirement in January 2000. He was a member of the Texas High School Coaches Association, the Moose Lodge and the Elks Lodge.
