He was a lifelong resident of El Paso and was a member of the Catholic Church. Mr. Aguilar was a cook for William Beaumont Army Medical Center. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. having served during the Vietnam Era. Mr. Aguilar is survived by his wife, Aurora L. Aguilar. Brownfield, John V. 53, lifetime Luna County rancher died suddenly at his home in Las Cruces, NM on July 28.2001 Memorial services will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 1020 S. Granite, in Deming, NM at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, august 2. Cremation has taken place. John V. Brownfield was born in Las Cruces, NM on January 25, 1948. He was raised on the family ranch in Deming, NM. He graduated from New Mexico Military Institute in 1966 and New Mexico Military Institute Junior College in 1968. He continued his education at New Mexico State University, graduating with a BS in Biology/Ag Engineering in 1971. He was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. After leaving NMSU, John served briefly in the United States Army as a 2nd Lt., stationed in Fort Hood, TX. He returned to the family ranch in 1973 and was there until his retirement to Las Cruces in 2001. He served on many local boards such as Farmers Home Administration, U.S. Soil Conservation Service, Farmers Inc., New Mexico Military Institute Alumni Advisory Board, Sun Products, and Luna County Hospice. He was recognized as the Outstanding Conservation Rancher in the Deming Southwest Conservation District in 1982. He was a co- owner of several businesses, including Goodsight Inc. cattle ranch in Deming, NM, the Medicine Shoppe pharmacy in Silver City, NM, and Sun Products, Inc. of Deming. John was a member of New Mexico Cattle Growers Association and of the First United Methodist Church of Deming. John is survived by his wife, Marsha, and two sons, D. Keith Brownfield and Jesse L. Brownfield of Las Cruces, a brother A.D. Brownfield, III of San Antonio, TX, and a sister M. Lea Brownfield of Mesilla, NM. He was preceded in death by his father A.D. Brownfield, Jr. and his mother Grace L. Brownfield. He is survived by his wife Anita Carrillo; sons, Raul, Ricardo, Roberto and wife M. Socorro and Alfredo and wife Mari Carrillo; daughters Alma Carrillo and Esperanza Bustillos; 15 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren; brothers, Maximo and Jose Carrillo; sister, Feliciana Renteria. DARCY, LENNA MARIE (BUBBLES) of El Paso passed away on July 29, 2001. She was born May 2, 1921, the daughter of Albert W. Norcop, prominent El Paso attorney, and his wife, Lucia De La O Norcop. Lenna married Wilfred M. Darcy in 1941, and was the mother of three children. She was preceded in death by her husband and one daughter, Margaret Ann (Peggy) Mann. She is survived by her daughter Sharon Marie Darcy of El Paso, her son Mark W. Darcy, of Las Vegas, Nevada, and her granddaughter, Jeanie M. Darcy of Dallas. Lenna was a graduate of Loretto Academy and attended St. Mary's College, Notre Dame, Indiana. She was active for many years in St. Patrick's Cathedral Altar Society and Legion of Mary. In her later years she retired to Tularosa, New Mexico, where she enjoyed oil painting and ceramics. She returned to El Paso in 1998, residing at White Acres Retirement Complex. She was born in Fitchburg, April 21, 1933, the daughter of Carl N. and Helen M. (Curley) Peontak. She graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1950 and Fitchburg State College in 1954. She was an elementary school teacher having taught in Springfield, Ma. Ashby, Ma. Lunenburg, Ma. and lastly for ten years in El Paso, Texas. She retired in 1992 and returned to Fitchburg, Ma. She was a member of Rollstone Congregational Church and a member of the Lunenburg Teachers Association. She was a volunteer for C.a.S.A., Court Appointed Social Advocate. She leaves her husband of 47 years, Harold F. Desmond Jr.; two daughters Patricia D. Whitney and Judith L. Desmond both of Fitchburg. One brother Carl Roy Peontak of Fitchburg. Mitch was educated in the Chicago-Public School System. At an early age, Mitch accepted Christ and was baptized at True Vine Baptist Church in Chicago, IL. Sgm. Mitchell entered the U.S. Army on July 31, 1956 and served at various base locations both in the Continental United States and abroad. During his tour of duty, Sgm Mitchell received many awards and decorations, including the Meritorious Medal (20LC), Army Commendation Medal (30LC), Parachute Badge, and Drill Instructor Badge. He retired from active military service honorably serving 30 years on July 06, 1989. On January 13, 1978 Mitch was united in matrimony to Betty McLean. They were blessed with one daughter, Cherish Love Mitchell, Mitch had a stern, but very protective love for his family, especially his mother and children. Beyond his family he had an outgoing fun loving spirit that most people adored. He loved life and enjoyed it to the fullest. Mitch remained active in the El Paso community and busied himself with various business and endeavors. He was an active member of the American Legion Post 832 and a youth counselor for young adults in the El Paso-Pal Program. He was a counselor for students with disabilities at the El Paso Community College. He departed this life on Thursday, July 26, 2001. Broillet, Eugene H. a resident of El Paso for 44 years, passed away after a lengthy illness August 1st2001 in his home. He is survived by Gaetana, wife of 53 years, his son Bruce, daughter- in-law Norah, grandson Dalton Gene, and daughter Camille, son-in-law John, and grandson John III. To his children, he was their hero and inspiration, but many children claimed him as their surrogate father and credit him with their success. Known as "Gene", he enlisted in the US Army from meager circumstances in his birthplace of Brooklyn, NY, fought in WWII, and was a forward observer in the Korean conflict. He rose from rank of recruit to the rank of Major upon his retirement from military service. Thereafter, Gene remained as Chief of Claims at Ft. Bliss in Civil Service and, in 1967, was named Civil Servant of the Year. Gene Broillet was noted for his extensive community service. He was active for many years in the Skyline Optimist Club in service to the youth of NE El Paso. He served as its President and was named Optimist of the Year on 4 separate occasions. He served as Director of the El Paso Soapbox Derby, and worked with students on the Oratorical Contest and youth baseball. Gene also volunteered his time to Blessed Sacrament Church helping to build the gymnasium, updating classrooms, and building chapel kneelers. He served as President of the Retired Officers Association of Ft. Bliss. Upon his retirement from Civil Service, Gene had a vision of building a much needed park in NE El Paso. He set about obtaining donations and spearheading the development of what is now the Skyline Optimist Youth Park. The Park is complete with a picnic and recreational area, baseball diamonds, soccer field, basketball and tennis courts, indoor gymnasium, and clubhouse. The courts are named "Broillet Courts" in recognition of his service. Gene bowled, danced, served and loved. Family and friends are traveling from the east and west coasts, Juarez, and El Paso to bid farewell to Gene. He served our country for 30 years and retired in El Paso in 1974, with many military awards and decorations. Services with military honors were held at Resthaven Memorial Park of Lubbock on Wednesday, July 25, 2001. He was born May 2, 1920, in Waukegan, Ill., and married Dorothy Keyes- Murphy on Aug. 11, 1942 in Wilson, NY. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in December, 1942 and served in the 82nd Airborne Division with the 504th Parachute Infantry Regiment and the 325th Glider Infantry. He was wounded twice in each, receiving two Purple Hearts and two Bronze Stars. He later served with NATO in Copenhagen, Denmark. He retired from the U.S. Army in July 1966, beginning a career as an electronics technician with the National Weather Service. He spent one year at Mould Bay Weather Station, Arctic Circle in Canada, making two trips to the North Pole. He moved to Lubbock in May 1970 and retired from the National Weather Service in 1983. Huachuca, AZ. on Feb. 8th, 1955, and passed away on Aug. 1st, 2001. Michael came to El Paso in 1973 to attend UTEP before moving to Hayward WI. in 1984. He owes and operated a self-motivational enterprise, taught High School Drama, and was the Chairman of the Youth Soccer Administration. Michael had a passion for hunting, fishing, and a life long love for the theater- participating in many summer stock productions. He also had a tenor voice of an angel. Tower, Lou Bullington 81, died Monday, August 6, 2001, with her daughters at her side at St. Paul Hospital in Dallas, Texas. Born June 4, 1920, in San Diego, California, and nicknamed "Honey," she grew up in Wichita Falls, Texas. She graduated from Wichita Falls High School in 1937 and attended Hardin Junior College prior to attending Texas State Teachers College for Women (now Texas Women's University). She graduated in 1941 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music, majoring in Piano, then spent the next 10 years in Wichita Falls, teaching piano and organ and working with the Red Cross and Canteen Corps. "Honey" played for weddings and funerals, taught at Midwestern State College (now Midwestern University), became the organist at First Methodist Church and married the pastor's son, John Goodwin Tower, in March 1952. Later that year, John took a leave from his political science teaching position at Midwestern, and they moved to England where he studied at the London School of Economics. They returned to Wichita Falls in 1953, and he resumed teaching at Midwestern while she would care for three daughters born soon thereafter. In 1961, Lou helped John win a special election to the United States Senate. That victory as the first Republican elected state-wide since Reconstruction began building a two- party Texas. The couple moved to Washington, D.C., where he served 24 years in the Senate. During their time in Washington, she tended to their daughters and served in the Senate Ladies' Red Cross, the Texas Congressional Delegation Club, the International Club, and as a charming hostess in the nation's capital. One of the first wives to campaign actively in a "grassroots" manner for her husband, Lou traveled tirelessly by car, bus, airplane, and on foot across Texas and is credited as pivotal to his first reelection in 1966. Lou was preceded in death by parents Marian and Grover Bullington, sister Marian Bullington Webb, brother Grover Bullington, Jr., daughter Marion Tower, and Senator John Tower. She is survived by her daughters and sons- in-law, Penny and David Cook and Jeanne and Berry Cox and grandsons, Tower Cook and Justin and John Cox, all of Dallas. Marie Antoinette was a lifelong resident of El Paso and graduated from UTEP, at the age of 61, with a Bachelor of Education. She leaves the love and dedication, she taught her students. She proved that perseverance, drive and love can be taught. These children and students will carry this all their lives. An accomplished pianist, she delighted her family & friends was well as bring joy to countless numbers of senior citizens as she would play thelr favorite tunes at their senior retirement center.
