She was 64, and had been a resident of El Paso for over 23 years. Renate was born in Germany. She was a beloved wife, sister, aunt and friend to many. She was preceded in death by her husband Lyle Jones. She is survived by one sister and three brothers. Also many nieces. Renate was an avid gardener and world traveler. Salazar, Esperanza passed away on Friday, August 24, 2001, a lifelong resident of El Paso. Mrs. Salazar retired from Popular Department Store and was a devoted member of Devine Savior Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir. Torres, Alfredo (Fred) was born to Jose Maria and Epimenia Torres on May 21, 1928 in Fort Worth, Texas. He graduated from Diamond Hill High School, where he and his brother Adolph were the first Americans of Mexican descent to play on the football team. He was selected All-District in his sophomore, junior and senior years. He attended Decatur Baptist Junior College and graduated from Western New Mexico University with a Bachelor's degree in Industrial Arts and Physical Education. In 1955, he accepted a teaching and coaching position with El Paso Independent School District. He coached football and golf and taught Industrial Arts at Jefferson High School for over 17 years. He then went on to become the Supervisor of Maintenance for the EPISD for another seventeen years, before retiring in 1988. During his years with EPISD, he received numerous awards and recognitions. He was involved in Texas Teacher's Association, National Education Association, Texas School Business Association, Texas Industrial Art Association and was elected Trans-Pecos Teacher of the Year in 1964. Fred was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 6711; he served as Master of the Fifth district of the Fourth Degree from 1994 until 1996. He was also a member of the International Order of the Alhambra Guadalupe Council 123. Fred was very active with the Special Olympics through the Alhambra and prided himself in helping to feed the poor during the holidays with the Knights of Columbus. He was a member of the Catholic Church, having served as an usher at St. Matthew's and Queen of Peace for many years. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of thirty-three years, Diamantina (Tina) U. Torres. He is survived by his loving wife Mary Ida Torres, and his devoted son Martin Glenn Torres of New York City, brother Adolph and wife Erica, their children and grandchildren; sisters Amparo Smarz and husband Bill and their children and grandchildren; Hermenia Benavidez and husband Jesse and their children and grandchildren; Irene Torres and her children and grandchildren; Mary Lopez and husband Fred and their children and grandchildren; Frances Hastings and husband Bob and their children and grandchildren; step-sons Oscar Duarte and his daughter; Stephen Duarte; step-daughters Elizabeth Swan, her husband Everett and their three children and Denise Gash. Burial will take place at Mount Carmel Cemetery. WARREN, EVELYN ROBERTS came into this world on October 5, 1915 and passed away on Aug. 24, 2001 after a prolonged illness from Alzheimer's Disease. Evelyn was raised by caring and beloved foster parents. While growing up she moved about constantly, living in Houston, Corpus Christi and San Antonio, Texas, as well as Oklahoma, Louisiana and Florida. She was a long time resident of El Paso. As a teenager Evelyn worked as a maid and in a candy factory while going to school at night to become a beautician and hairdresser, a profession of which she was very proud. She loved animals, particularly dogs. Survivors include her husband Burney Warren, who she married in 1978, at the age of 62. Also step-son Charles B. Warren and wife Carlene M. Warren of Houston, Texas; step-granddaughter Sheila W. Hillier and husband Michael C. Hillier of Franwood, N.J.; step-grandson Stephen B. He was born in Blairsville, PA, and moved as a youngster to El Paso. He graduated from Austin High School and attended The University of Texas at Austin. He served in the United States Army during World War II and was honorably discharged. He completed his Bachelor of Arts from Texas College of Mines and Metallurgy and received his Master of Arts from Texas Western College. Bill Lucas was a long time teacher and administrator in the Ysleta Independent School District. While a Biology teacher at Ysleta High School, he sponsored the Student Council and was a Senior Class sponsor. He was an enormously popular teacher and was honored with the dedication of the Ysleta Yearbook. He was a dedicated educator who won the hearts of both students and faculty members. Mr. Lucas was the principal of Ramona Elementary School for over 25 years. His lifelong work and passion was the education and overall development of children. His beloved wife of 26 years, Hazel Ann Manker Davis Lucas, his daughter, Kathy Sue Lucas of El Paso, and nephews Gene Lucas and David Lucas of Austin, TX, survive him. He was born March 9, 1926 in Bessemer, Alabama to the late Louis and Marie Tarrant. He graduated from Dunbar High School in Bessemer, Alabama in 1950 and volunteered for military service in the U.S Army in 1944. He served honorably for over 26 years and his military career included a Combat Tour during the Korean War. After retiring from the military in 1970, he became involved in religious, political, and fraternal activities in El Paso and the Southwest. He was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church where he served faithfully until his passing. Louis and Daisy Tarrant raised five children during their 52 years of marriage. Their oldest son, Louis G. Tarrant III (Sunny) passed away in 1980. Louis G. Tarrant Jr., is survived by his devoted and loving wife, Daisy Mae Tarrant; two daughters, Carolyn Taylor and husband Les, of Fairfax, Virginia, and Mamie Harley and husband Alfonso, of Fort Worth, Texas; two sons, Kenneth Tarrant and wife Karina, of Fairfax, Virginia, and Erick Tarrant and wife Pat, of El Paso, Texas. He is also survived by ten grandchildren, six great grandchildren, two sisters and one brother; Louise Jenkins, Cleophus Larry, and Alexander Tarrant of Bessemer, Alabama, and a host of other relatives and friends. She will be missed by her family to include her daughter, Ruthie V. He was an excellent student as he grew up in school. A member of the ROTC at Bowie High School. Finally graduating from Riverside High School in 1973. He worked more than ten years at Levis Strauss. Also at Eureka Co. Recent student at El Paso Community College. He was known and loved by a lot of people in El Paso, who will miss him a lot. Hazel, or Jesse as she was known to many of her friends, was born October 16, 1909 in Princess Anne Couny, VA. She attended Longwood College in Farmville, VA. One of her most lasting memories was being crowned SQueen of the Virginia Beach BoardwalkS when it opened in 1926. She moved to El Paso in 1938 when her first husband, Curtis SZekeS Wilson joined the El Paso Electric Co. Except for the years during World War II, Hazel Resided in El Paso. Following the death of her first husband, she married long time friend, John A. Davis, Jr., also of the El Paso Electric Co. Hazel was preceded in death by John Davis and three of her brothers, Vernon James, Kermit James and Hope James. She was active in the El Paso Women's Club and the El Paso Electric Co. Retirees Association. Hazel is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Mary and Stanley Schettler of El Paso, and Libby and Hill Britton, M.D. of Las Cruces, NM; a step-daughter and her husband, Jo Anne and Kenneth Haynes of Englewood, CO; a brother Langley Earl James of Portsmouth, VA; seven grandchildren, Bill Schettler and Curtis Schettler of Denton, TX, Steven Schettler of El Paso, TX, Marjorie Andersohn of St. Louis, MO, Bloyce Britton III, D.D.S. of San Antonio, TX, Ron S.
