Mrs. Hernandez was born in Camargo, Chihuahua, Mexico April 13, 1904. She came to El Paso in 1920 with her family, then married and a raised family of her own. She loved to read poetry and to listen to music. She was the family historian and we will miss all of her stories about the Hernandez and Urias families. She leaves a legacy of high values for education and hard work. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Preceded in death by her daughter Magdalena and her son Edmundo; sisters Adela Luna and Juana Rodriguez; brothers Librado, Marcelino,Donaciano, and Tomas Urias. She is survived by her husband Francisco; daughters Olivina Reza, Marta Dominguez, Armida Hernandez, and Josefina Perez; sons Ruben, Abelardo, and Francisco Hernandez; 33 grandchildren; 61 great grand children, and 14 great great grandchildren. She taught us from an early age that you should feed and clothe whoever needs it. She helped the destitute in Juarez for more than 35 years. Everyone called her Hermana Lola. She was a faithful servant of Our Lord Jesus Christ and lived a God kind of life. She will be missed but when she arrived home, her father surely said "Well done my good and faithful servant." RIVAS, NORMA LINDA 47, passed away Sunday, December 9, 2001 in a local hospital. Resident of El Paso, Texas. Linda was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and was a Branch Manager for the El Paso County Tax Office for over 12 years. Preceded in death by mother Norma Leasure and brother John Leasure Jr. Survived by father John Leasure, husband Eduardo Rivas, son Edward R. Rivas, daughter Yzaela L. ARIAS, SOLEDAD devoted wife and mother, passed away Tuesday, December 11, 2001 in a local hospital at the age of 79. She grew up in Smelter Town and the Buena Vista area. Mrs. Arias was a resident of Borderland, Texas for 50 years and was a member of San Francisco De Assisi Catholic Church in Montoya. Mrs. Arias was a proud American and United States citizen. He was a 1950 Graduate of Texas College of Mines with a degree in Business Administration. He was a third generation owner of Anderson Food Stores; established by his grandmother, Lena Herry Anderson Quinn. He also managed Tri-State Wholesale Grocers and was partner/owner of R.S. Palmer Lumber Company in Deming, NM and a member of First Baptist Church. Survived by his wife of 54 years, Emily Butler Anderson; two sons and daughters-in-law, Thomas William and Janice Berger Anderson of Odessa, TX; James Hamilton and Patsy Ramsey Anderson of Lake Jackson, TX; daughter and son-in-law, Catherine A. and Cliff R. Burnett, Mr. Jerry 63, passed away Monday, December 10, 2001, in a plane crash. He had been a resident of the El Paso/Las Cruces area for 35 years. Jerry had been a pilot for 36 years and had currently been flying for Air Cargo Express. Many knew Jerry from his travels around the country, and everyone who knew him loved him for his wit, humor, and generous nature. Jerry is survived by his mother Iris Warkentin of Geary, Oklahoma, brother Brian Burnett of Riverside, California, sister Becky Burnett of Oklahoma, three children, Star Burnett of Ventura, California, April Burnett of El Paso, Texas, Ernest Burnett of Tarzana, California, one grandson, Kyle Burnett of El Paso, Texas and a stepbrother, Jack Warkentin and family of Geary, Oklahoma. He was a member of St. Jude Catholic Church. Mr. Chavarria was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Trinidad Chavarria. Mrs. Oporto is survived by her sons Tomas Oporto, Frank Oporto, and Roberto Oporto and her daughter Mary Oporto Alarcon. Other survivors include seventeen grandchildren and twenty two great-grandchildren, her brother Frank Chavez and sister Angela Martinez. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. He was a veteran of WWII in the Merchant Marines, he was also a Fire Chief with the Tigua Volunteer Fire Department, owner and founder of Daniels Roofing. He was past Scout Master of Troop #96, a member Lower Valley Optimist and Lower Valley Lions Club, past president of Concordia Heritage Association, Discover El Paso past president, Faith Presbyterian Church, past president of Texas Roofing Contractors Association. He was preceded in death by his brother, Bill Johnson and is survived by his wife of 57 years, Inez Daniels, his two sons, Mike and his wife, Debbie Daniels and Dave and his wife, Janna Daniels; four grandchildren, Richard, Christi, Monica and Bryce; one great-grandson, Joshua. Memorial Service will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 16th in Faith Presbyterian Church with Pastor Bill Schlesinger officiating. Burial will be private.
