Emma was a resident of El Paso since 1923. She was the owner of Emma's Groceries and later a mentor for the elderly. He was born January 31, 1914 in Atlanta (Fulton), Georgia. Alton is survived by his wife of 47 years, Elizabeth (Krautmann) Gloer (of Ulm Donau, Germany), and their three sons, Alton Henry Gloer III, (of Norwich, CT.), Albert Walter Gloer, ALCM, ARM, (of Dallas, TX.), William Antonio Gloer, CFP, (of San Diego, CA) and his daughter‑in‑law Karen Gloer, wife of Alton Gloer III. Alton was an Honorably Discharged and decorated 20‑year retired World War II, and Korean Campaign Veteran, receiving the Bronze Star for gallantry and heroism under fire, and two Purple Hearts. He was additionally retired from the United States Civil Service, having worked at White Sands Missile Range and what was the El Paso National Bank. Alton was a loyal and dedicated life‑member of Fraternity Lodge #1111 AF & AM, The Scottish Rite Bodies of El Paso, Texas, Past Patron of the Wallace Houston Chapter #57 and OES. Alton was also Past Potentate of El Maida Temple A.A.O.N.M.S. As husband, father and friend, Alton touched everyone in a special way and was devoted and dedicated to his family. He had an honest, caring smile, and a kindhearted southern nature. He will be missed, and fondly remembered. He began life long service to his country in 1942, working in the Photographic Lab at Signal Research Lab in Ft. Monmouth, NJ, before joining the US Army Air Corps (which later became the Air Force) in Jan. 1943 and serving with the 330th Bomb Group in the Pacific during WWII. Afterwards, Bill was the Chief of Staff of the Pictorial Division at White Sands Missile Range for more than 25 years. Bill also dedicated himself to the Jewish War Veterans, serving as National Commander, Regional Commander and local commander for the El Paso post. Bill married June M. Traub in 1943, who preceded him in death in 1987 after 44 years of marriage. They lived in Belmar, New Jersey before moving to Las Cruces, New Mexico in 1953. In 1961, they moved their family to El Paso, Texas. Bill married Ruth Isakoff, of Tucson, Arizona in 1988. Bill and Ruth have lived both in El Paso and Tucson over the past 14 years. Beloved father of three daughters, Jill Lieberman and husband Stephan Schmitz, of El Paso, Texas, Debbie and husband Ronald Marcus, of El Paso, Texas and Karen and husband Dennis Gault of Austin, Texas, and beloved step‑father of Rose Anderson of Asheville, North Carolina. One of his proudest accomplishments was serving his country in the United States Air Force which he began in 1943. As a flight engineer/aircraft mechanic, he traveled throughout the world, retiring in El Paso in 1965. He is survived by one daughter, Frances Yolanda Frerichs of Caldwell, Idaho; three sons, Mario Gardea of Fontana, CA; Michael Gardea of Pine, Idaho; and Edward Gardea of Greenwood Village, CO. He was blessed with 15 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, including his special niece Grace Ureno. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Evelyn, son Ruben, 7 brothers and 3 sisters. SCHARFENBERG BERNICE EGE died March 19, 2002 in West Chester, Pennsylvania after a short illness. She was born in Rock Island County, Illinois October 11, 1917 to Everett Ege & Velma Reynolds Ege and was raised on the family farm near Erie, Illinois. Mrs. Scharfenberg graduated from Eric High School in 1936 and received her R.N. from Jane Lamb Hospital Nursing School in Clinton, Iowa in 1939. She served in the U.S. Army as a nurse from 1943 to 1946 and did a tour of duty in the European arena. Following her discharge she worked as an industrial nurse in Morrison, Illinois. In 1950, she was united in marriage to William Scharfenberg, after which she worked in a private physician's practice in Murray Kentucky. In 1960 the family moved to El Paso, Texas where she worked for Dr. Reigh Peck at Diablo Hospital and Clinic from 1961 until her retirement in the late 1970's. She also worked in the Student Health Services at the University of Texas at El Paso. In 1996, she moved to West Chester, Pennsylvania, where she was residing at the time of her death. Mrs. Scharfenberg is survived by her daughters and sons‑in‑law, Mary & Robert Wujcik of Cloverdale, Oregon, Jodie & Hector Estrada of West Chester, Pennsylvania, grandson Charles Wujcik & his wife Lauren of Beaverton, Oregon, Alexis Estrada and her husband, Richard; and Michael Estrada, all of West Chester; and one great‑granddaughter Alexandria Wujcik; sisters Dorothy Stone (Fulton, Illinois), Mervyn "Mike" Romano (Fallbrook, California); and brother William Ege (Fulton, Illinois). She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, William in 1990, and one sister, Marian Finnicum in 1992. Her remains will be buried at the Ft. Bliss Military Cemetery in El Paso, Texas. She was a graduate of Philadelphia College of the Bible and served as a missionary to Nicaragua with her husband from 1936 to 1941.
