Some knew him as Joe or Mike; to us, he was Brother Mike and Uncle Mike. Joe Mike has now gone to be with his parents, where he will never ever be alone, ever again. For each and every one of us that knew Joe or Brother Mike, there was something special about him that will stay in our hearts. He tried so very hard to fit into this society, since his accident in August 1976. He was hit by a car and left for dead. He came a long ways and all he ever wanted was to be loved, cared for, and accepted. Remembering his last words a day before his passing, he said, "Sis, I want to come home," and a few days before this, he told his niece, "Precious, I am so hungry, can you sneak me in a bologna sandwich and cut it into little pieces." He was not able to consume food or drink, as he aspirated. So Brother, as we lay you to rest, be at peace now and one day we will all be together again. Watch over us all and pray for us too!
