She was a long time resident of El Paso. Preceded in death by her husband, Ret. Col. Charles E. Chambers. Mrs. Chambers is survived by her son Osmond Emil Chambers and wife Thea; and grand- children, Xaviera, Ruben, and Ciana Chambers. She was a member of the AKA Sorority as well as the El Paso Links. Mrs. Chambers will be taken back to the Bahamas for burial at a later date. BRADLEY, JOHN LINDSEY MD, A memorial service for Colonel, U.S. Army Medical Corps Retired), is scheduled for 4:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 15, 2002 at Marvin United Methodist Church in Tyler, with the Reverend Michael D. Dent presiding. A reception will follow at the church. Family burial service will be held at 3 p.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery. Dr. Bradley died at Mother Frances Hospital on May 13. Dr. Bradley was born in Moorhead, Mississippi, on May 7, 1917, the son of Everett Stumph Bradley and Nellie Wilkes Bradley. He earned a B.S. degree from Mississippi State University in 1939, and graduated from the University of Tennessee Medical School in Memphis in 1942. He took his internship at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee, and his residency at Georgetown University School of Medicine in Washington, D.C. His military career of 28 years included duty at William Beaumont Army Hospital in El Paso, Madigan General Hospital, Tacoma, Washington, two tours of duty in Heidelberg, Germany, service as Chief of Staff at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, and as Commander of Ft. Ord, California Hospital Center. Dr. Bradley's military service encompassed tours of duty in the Pacific Theater during World War II, the Korean conflict and Viet Nam. His military honors included the Legion of Merit with Oak Leaf Cluster. He also practiced medicine with the Texas Department of Health from 1971 to 1985 in El Paso, Texas, where he was director of the West Texas Public Health Region. He was a lifetime member of the American Medical Association, a member of the Texas Medical Association, the Retired Officers Association, the Downtown Rotary Club of Tyler and served as President of the East El Paso Rotary Club. Dr. Bradley is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Bonney. Other survivors include his son, J. Lindsey Bradley, Jr. and daughter-in-law Sharlotte of Tyler; daughter Catherine A. Bradley of Tyler, and son William E. Bradley of Dallas, along with his four grandchildren: Elizabeth Bradley Jouett of Austin, Texas; John C. Bradley, MD, of Houston; Evan A. Howard and Kelty E. Howard, both of Tyler. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren: Jack Jouett, Carter Jouett and Campbell Bradley. He was born on May 19, 1919 in Mission, Texas. "Felo" served in the United States Army, fought in the Pacific during WW II, as a Staff Sgt. on the 12th Calvary Troop D. "Felo" retired from Civil Service after thirty years. He was a life long resident of El Paso. Our dad's laughter, generosity, and most of all his love shall be greatly missed by his surviving wife of 59 years, Aurora "Lola" Reyna. He is also survived by his brother Enrique Reyna from Mission, Texas. Grandchildren: Yvette, Lisa, Kim, Debbie, Valerie Reyna, Joey and Gloria Loveless, Chris and Crystal Loveless, Frankie Jr., Kassie and Orlando Reyna. Her spirit shines through her six grandkids, Ashlee, Mia, Isabella, Sophia, Joel and Rene. As a devoted Catholic she invested much of her time supporting the church and in particular took great pride in decorating the altar at Corpus Christi Catholic Church. Her compassion and love were limitless and extended to others such as the kids in her neighborhood, women in her prayer groups, and patients she befriended. Through her efforts and dedication, the world is a better place. She made an impact and difference to all she encountered. Gonzalez, Jose Luis (NASA PIONEER DIES), 79, passed away Tuesday, May 7, 2002 in Madison, WI. He worked at the "Kennedy Space Program where he was a pioneer in the space program as a member of the Dr. Werner von Braun team that left El Paso in 1950 to Huntsville, AL. He was soon assigned to the launch team at Cape Canaveral, FL., where he remained until his retirement. He was instrumental in the early phases of the Space Program in the development of Launch vehicle checkout procedures in preparation for Launch Vehicle readiness for launch. His involvement in developing checkout procedures and vehicle readiness directly contributed to the highly successful launches, starting with the Redstone on the first manned flight, to the Saturn V. Lunar mission. In addition to his regular engineering assignment, he was extensively utilized by the Public Affairs Office in guided tours and presentations to the public. He received several awards for his contributions to the Space Program. He was preceded in death by his wife, Amelia Almeraz. Brothers, Lucas D., Miguel E. Gonzalez and sister, Carmen G. Barajas. Mr. Gonzalez is survived by his sons, Jose Luis Jr., Ruben, David, Carlos & Lucas Gonzalez. Daughter, Margarita Burns. After his retirement he moved to El Paso, where he lived for the past 12 years. Paul worked for the Borden Company as General Sales Manager for 25 years and also the El Paso Times for 15 years. He served in World War II as a Reconnaissance Pilot, flying P-38-P-51 and B-25 over enemy territory. ELVIRA 71, passed away on Sunday, May 19, 2002. She was born in Duncan, Oklahoma, on April 28, 1931. She had resided in the El Paso area since 1980. She was a resident at the Casa Pro Mesa Group Home during the last 3 years and was a member of the Santa Teresa Presbyterian Church. Her parents preceded Ms. Griffin in death. Her brother, Jerry A. Griffin & his wife, Patty, her nieces Theresa L. Hirst, Heather Watters and Ryan S. Griffin and her grand nieces, Katelyn Hirst and Symone Bryant and a grand nephew, Andrew Hirst, survive her. She was a longtime resident of El Paso. She became a local business owner after working as a paramedic with E.M.S. Volunteer work was always important in her life, with such organizations as The Red Cross, The Girl Scouts, D.A. Youth Activities, etc. She was an instructor at UTEP. She worked for the military in the intelligence department in Panama. She received many professional designations recognizing her achievements during her 24 years as a real estate professional. An accomplished pianist, she majored in music at the University of Houston, and studied Economics, International Law, and Psychology both in Houston and Florida. She was the beloved mother of Docia, Katherine and Carol, wife of Allan Lemley, stepmother to Janice, Susan, Lizbeth, Pamela, Suzanne and Allan Jr. and was dearly loved by her 15 grandchildren. She is also survived by her mother, Lottie Dee Atkins, brother Bob Atkins and family, and friend, Gail Goodloe. He is the son of Olga and Glenn J. Gilbert of Canutillo, Texas. Bill's maternal grandfather, Bernhardt Edward Backer originally began farming in Old Mesilla around 1920 and later purchased the family farm in the Upper Valley on which Bill lived. Bill served in the Navy during World War II, attended New Mexico State University, and for many years lovingly cared for his disabled father. He was a talented trick-roper and professional photographer, taking pictures of family, friends, cowboys and their horses in Texas and New Mexico. His other interests included training racehorses and playing golf. Bill is survived by his brother, Robert J. Gilbert of El Paso, his sister, Jean Whittington of Lake Havasu City, Arizona; nephew Robert G. Gilbert of El Paso; and four nieces: Meg Bergquist of Austin; Carol Fauntleroy of Lake Havasu City; Julie Duncan of Atlanta, and Sandy Whittington of Santa Barbara.
