Found in the 1930 census living at Douglas, Mitchell, Iowa and working as a hired man for a farmer: Bernard Dargan age 16. Found in the 1935, 1940 censuses at Wheatland, Kenosha, Wisconsin: 1940: 28 years old, working as a hired man. Attended Riceville High School at Riceville, Mitchell, Iowa for 2 years. Served as a soldier in the U.S. Army in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. Enlisted at Ogle, Fort Sheridan, Illinois March 17, 1942 as a private. Re-enlisted June 17, 1946 until October 16, 1969. News article from the Mason City Globe Gazette, April 26, 1945: "Cite Riceville Yank for Service in Italy" - Peninsular Base Headquarters, Italy: T/Sgt. Bernard V. Dargan, of Riceville, Iowa, is a member of the 389th Port battalion, a unit of the Peninsular Base Section, important service and supply organization for the 5th army and for the ground crews of the US Air Cops and Navy in the Mediterranean theater of operations. Sgt. Dargan, a labor foremand and longshoreman, is the son of Mr & Mrs James B Dargan of Riceville. He graduated from Riceville High School in 1931 and entered the army in March 1942. After serving in Canada, he came to this theater in March 1943, to serve in North Africa and Italy. He took part in the Salerno and Anzio Beachhead operations. Sgt. Dargan wears the good conduct medla, the American theatre ribbon and the Mediterranean theater ribbon with 2 battle participation stars. His brother, Cpl. Paul J Dargan, is serving with the air corps. From the Mason City Globe Gazette, December 29, 1960: Promoted to Sergeant Major, super grade E9, the highest listed grade attainable while serving with the "Honest John" missile unit at Ft Bliss, Texas. Bernard married Lorraine Edith Sutcliff, the couple had 3 daughters. James Bernard Dargan died October 20, ​20​02 at ​El​ Paso, Texas​ and is burie​d at the Fort Bliss National C​emetery, Fort Bliss, El Paso, Texas as is his spouse Lorraine.
