He died peacefully at home, surrounded by his family. Bob was 78, born in El Paso, Texas on May 5, 1929. At the age of 15, Bob used his sister's birth certificate to enlist in the U.S. Navy. He served on the U.S.S. St. Louis during the Pacific campaign in World War II, battling enemy ships and planes in and around the Marianas Islands, Solomon Islands and the Philippines. Bob married Ofelia Pena on September 2, 1951 and shared a loving relationship for fifty-six years that included raising three children, Yolanda, Steven and Cynthia. He was a proud grandfather of nine and a great-grandfather of five. Bob owned and operated several furniture manufacturing companies that catered to the retail and hotel industries. After retirement, his hobbies included digital photography, gardening, computers and working on small projects in his garage. During the last few years of his life, Ofelia and Bob enjoyed visiting and entertaining with new and old friends at the American Legion Hall in Montebello. He especially cherished these lasting relationships. Memorial services will be performed at 11:00 a.m. on September 15, 2007 at the SkyRose Chapel, Rose Hills.
