All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm *********************************************************** 5/31/2006 Los Angeles (CA) Daily News CLARA LOUISE GILLESPIE Oct. 25, 1914 - May 26, 2006 Beloved wife and mother died May 26, at the age of 91, in her home in Granada Hills, California. Louise was born in El Paso, Texas, October 25, 1914, and grew up in Fort Worth, Texas. She received her Bachelor's Degree in Mathematics at Texas Christian University and her Master's Degree in Mathematics at the University of Texas at Austin, graduating summa cum laude. After college she worked as a Professor of Mathematics at Tarleton State College. Later she worked on a project for the Atomic Energy Commission at Sandia Corporation in Albuquerque, New Mexico. She then worked for many years as a Professor of Mathematics at Los Angeles Valley College until her retirement. She was a volunteer at Descanso Gardens in La Canada, California, where she was known as "The Herb Lady" because of her extensive knowledge of herbs. She is survived by her husband, Edmond Stanley Gillespie; and her four children, Ellen Gail Boatwright, Denis Earl Grady, Edmond Stanley Gillespie, Jr., and Frieda Lois Gillespie. A Memorial Service will be held at Emerson Unitarian Universalist Church at 7304 Jordan Ave., Canoga Park, CA 91303, at 3:00 p.m., on June 4, 2006. There will be a reception following the service at: 17835 Minnehaha St., Granada Hills, CA 91344.
