PELHAM, in the Arkansas regiment of Arkansas Volunteers, commanded by Gen'l ARBUCKLE, in the war with Mexico; that I enlisted at Fort Smith Ark on or about the [left blank] day of July, A.D. 1846, for the term of the war, and was honorably discharged at Fort Wayne, on the [left blank] day of Feby or March, A.D. 1847. That being duly enlisted, as aforesaid, I actually served sixty days with the Army or Navy of the United States in Mexico, or on the coast or frontier thereof, or en route thereto in the war with that Nation, which service was as follows: Fort duty, relieving Regulars at Ft Wayne Indian Territory at which place I was stationed nearly eleven months. (a.) That I am 67 years of age, having been born at Huntsville MO on the 25th day of January, 1820. [Nos. b, c and d left blank] That I [...] was married; that the maiden name of my wife was Louisa COCHRAN, to whom I was married at Independence [County], in the State of Arkansas, on the 26th day of August, A.D. 1841, that my wife is now dead, having died on the 22nd day of July, A.D. 1879, at Bosque County, in the State of Texas; that I have not since remarried. That the name of my present wife is [left blank]. That in support and proof of my right to pension I tender herewith, under the regulations prescribed by the Secretary of the Interior, the following evidence: My discharge from said service which is I suppose now on file in Washington DC having been sent up with a former application and the affidavits of 2 witnesses. That I have heretofore made application for bounty land, which said claim is No. [blank] and received warrant for 160 acres. That I am not a pensioner of the United States under certificate No. [left blank], at the rate of [left blank] dollars per month. That since my discharge from said service I have resided as follows to wit: in Taney County MO some seven or eight years and in Bosque Co Texas about thirty years and moved from there to Erath Co Tex where I now live. /s/ Maryland GEE Witnesses: C.D. NICHOLS, who, being by me first duly sworn, deposes and says: I have known Maryland GEE for the space of Fourteen years, and I was requested by said Maryland Gee to sign my name as a witness to the declaration for pension under the Act of January 29, 1887, sworn to by him on the 30th day of March, A.D. 1887; and that at his request I so signed my name as witness; that the said Maryland GEE is the identical person who signed the foregoing declaration, and who is therein described, and who was enlisted in the company of Captain Charles H. PELHAM in the regiment commanded by Genl ARBUCKLE Ark Vols, in the Mexican war, as in the said declaration set out. No. 1. That the said Maryland GEE actually served sixty days with the Army or Navy of the United States in Mexico, or on the coast or frontier, or en route thereto, in the war with that Nation, that I swear to these facts from knowledge obtained as follows: I have been intricately acquainted with said Maryland GEE and his family for more than fourteen years and have frequently heard him and his son and daughters speak of his service as a soldier in the Mexican war. That the said Maryland GEE is over sixty-two years of age, having been born on or about the 25th day of January, A.D. 1820 at Huntsville Randolph Co, in the State of Missouri, and that I swear to these facts from knowledge obtained as follows: The personal appearance of said Maryland GEE and the statements of himself and family.
