Volume VII, No. 39 Page 3 HONEY GROVE, TEXAS_This is a little village in Fannin County, almost sixteen miles east of Bonham, containing several stores, a Male and Female School,and a population of several hundred. David Crocket, who was on his way to Western Texas at the head of a company of troops, encamped for a time at the place where the village is now located, and discovered seven bee tress in the grove and gave it the name of “Honey Grove” The stream called “Honey Creek” has its source in this grove, and took its name from the same circumstance. The Methodist church in the vicinity is about one hundred strong.
