Mr. Joseph Peters who donated this land was the son of Jos. Peters, Sr., who came to this country with his family from Moravia in 1856, and settled on the banks of the Navidad (Dubina) only to endure extreme hardships during the first year. The Peters family espoused the Confederate cause and lost one son in the war. Joseph, who was too young to enlist, joined a cotton caravan which made regular trips to Brownsville, a distance of 500 miles. He married Barbara Vrana in 1875. Engaging in merchandising and farming He acquired property valued at $60,000.00. In 1885 he became Postmaster at Dubina and in 1890 a member of the 22nd legislature, representing the seventeenth district. He died in March of 1924 and his remains lie buried in the Dubina Cemetery.
