Thomas http://www.genrecords.net/emailregistry/vols/00016.html#0003785 December 12, 2007, 1:21 am Written: December 2, 1853 Recorded: January 24, 1854 Deed of Conveyance Vol J, Page 149 No. 3078 Mortgage The State of Texas County of Fayette Know all men by these presents that I Jane Groce for and in consideration of a certain promisor note bearing even date herewith for the sum of two hundred dollars, executed to James Reynolds and due twelve months from date with eight percent interest from date, and the better to secure the payment of the same and for the further consideration of One Dollar to me in hand paid the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged, have bargained Sold and Conveyed, as by these presents bargain Sell & Convey unto the said James Reynolds his heirs & assigns a certain Negro Slave named Dan about thirteen years old. To have and to hold the same unto said Reynolds his heirs and assigns forever. Always Provided, that upon the payment of said note this mortgage shall cease determine and become null and void to all intents & purposes and further provided that the possession of Said Slave shall remain with Me. In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand and affix my scroll as a Seal this December the 2nd 1853. Witness her William G. Webb Jane X Groce {seal} J.H. Webb, Notary Public in and for the County aforesaid this day personally appeared Jane Groce and acknowledged that she executed the instrument of writing hereunto attached bearing date the 2nd Day of December A.D. 1853 for the considerations and purposes therein stated.
