Huff Clerk of the District Court in and for said County in said State this day came Jessee Thompson of said County and to well known to be a truthful man, who being duly sworn upon this oath states that the affiant is well acquainted with Randal Jones the applicant in the annexed petition that he has known him for more than forty years past proceeding this State. That said Jones was a Soldier in the Army of the Revolution & particular affiant says that the applicant was first Lieutenant in the Company commanded by Capt. Wyly Martin organized for and received in the Army of the Republic of Texas about Febry or March 1836 as I stated in the said petition & that he (Jones) faithfully performed all the duties of or guard Soldier. Jesse Thompson Sworn to & subscribed to before me this the 3d day of October A.D. 1870 To all of which I certify Given under my hand and the Seal of the District Court of said County at my office in the Town of Richmond this the 3rd day of October A.D. 1870 William P. Huff, Clerk We the undersigned all citizens of Fort Bend County Texas, hereby certify that we are well acquainted with Randal Jones the applicant in the annexed petition that he is a truthful man & the identical Jones mentioned in sd Petition that he assisted in the Revolution that freed Texas from Mexico in 1836 & prior to that date and say that we are satisfied that all his statements set forth in his said petition are strictly true. Jones would respectfully represent Randall Jones was born in Columbia County, State of Georgia A.D. 1786. That he became a citizen of Texas in the year 1818. By refferences to the Land Office will see that he was granted a League & Labor of land in Fort Bend County as a Colonist under Stephen F. Austin, that he was in the Military Service of Texas in 1836 a Lieut. in Wiley Martins Company ___ attached – that he participated in resisting the crossing of the Brazos River by the Mexicans in 1836 and was on detached service in the Texas Army at the time of the memorable battle of San Jacinto – that he commanded a company & participated in the battle of Jones Creek in Brazoria County as early as 1825 or 26. That Petitioners Samuel H., J. Austin & Jas. M. Sarah Foster, Susan Earnest, and Eliza Cook are the Children & only heirs of said Randall Jones his wife having died before him, that he was entitled to Pensions under the law of 1870 & forwarded the necessary proof to secure the ___ he being alive at that time, that he never received anything under that law, nor did ever know whether a certificate of Pension issued to him & all the other heirs having relinquished their rights to Petitioner. She prays that bonds may issue to her from 1870 to June 1878 under the law of 1874. P. A. Jones The State of Texas Fort Bend County Before me I. M. Weston a Notary Public in afore said State & County duly compound & qualified personally appeared Randolph Foster, Jesse Thompson & R. J. Calder to me personally known who upon this oath say that Randall Jones late of Fort Bend County departed this life in the City of Houston Texas on the 1st day of June A.D. 1873. That he left no widow & that he had received nothing under the appropriation made for the payment of Pensions under act of the 13th August 1870. That he is the identical Randall Jones alluded to in the foregoing Petition that we knew him personally from 40 years that we know he rendered the military service as an Officer in the Army of Texas, as in said petition stated and that we were in the same command with him & participated in the San Jacinto campaign.
