Vernon, has died at the home of her cousin, Mrs. J.M. Holman, in Pittsburg, yesterday morning. Miss Devall had been afflicted for a number of years and had been practically an invalid for quite awhile. An operation held out a small ray of hope for the restoration of health and happiness, but the ravages of her affliction had so weakened her constitution that she could not rally from the shock and her worn spirit took it flight. Miss Devall was the youngest child of Dr. Devall and wife who made their home here and who both died in this city. Her remains were laid to rest in the (Sulphur Springs) City cemetery beside her father and her sister, Mrs. Willie Westbrook. Eld C.C. Clingman, of Mt. Vernon, conducted the funeral service. She graduated with high honors at Grayson College, Whitewright, and later taught school there and elsewhere. (S.S. Gazette, Fri., Jan. 31, 1908)
