Vernon Optic Herald 30 Jun 1933 The sudden death of Mrs. J.B. Ham was a severe shock to her many friends and relatives here, where she was born and spent her entire life. She was stricken with acute indigestion Saturday night and was slightly better Sunday, but succumbed to a heart attack late Sunday night, passing away at 11:45 o'clock. Funeral services were held at the Methodist church here Monday afternoon. Rev. S.M. Williams officiating. Burial followed at the City Cemetery. Vinnie Long was born near Mt. Vernon, May 23, 1879, being 54 years of age when death came. She was a daughter of S.M. and Laura Long and was a beloved member of the large and affectionate Long family. She was married to J.B. Ham in 1895, and he died on October 16, 1931. Three sons were born to them, one son, Don, dying February 8, 1932. Surviving are two sons, Walter of Mt. Vernon, and J.B. Jr. of who is attending business college in Dallas; also four brothers and four sisters, as follows: N.H. Long, Sam Long, Bob Long, Dan Long, and Mrs. D.S. Dawson, Mrs. C.F. Wall, Mrs. A.V. Seay, all of Mt. Vernon, and Mrs. Sam Pullen of Slaton.
