Vernon Optic Herald 27 Jul 1917 After months of suffering and anxious waiting, Mrs. Laura Long, wife of S.M. Long, passed to her reward Tuesday morning and was laid to rest in the family burying ground at Providence, Wednesday morning, amid a host of weeping friends and relatives. Bro. C.L. Wilson, pastor of the Baptist Church, conducted the funeral. Laura Caudle was the daughter of Daniel and Many Caudle, old and respected pioneer citizens of this section, and was born in this (then Titus) county, Jan 2, 18761. She was married to S.M. Long, Jan 11, 1877 and 14 children blessed their union, 12 of whom are now living- six boys and six girls, all married except two young sons, the youngest being 13 years old. For 43 years Mrs. Long has been a consistent member of the Baptist Church, her membership being at Glade Springs. The end came as a benediction for her; without pain or pang of remorse, she sweetly fell asleep.
