Freestone County, Texas Biographies Barton Warren Acuff Barton Warren Acuff b 26 Aug 1828 in Bledsoe County, TN., d 21 May 1870 in Freestone County, TX. Buried in Harrison Chapel Cemetery, Freestone County, TX. beside infant daughter, Cueenie Acuff. Obituary, published in "American Christian Review“ 19 Jul 1870, p, 230, states Barton Acuff moved to Miller County, MO, in 1852 with wife and daughter Samantha. Three children, Arvidina, Robert D, and Sara were b, in Missouri. Barton W. joined church in Tennessee 1865, became an Elder in Church of Christ 1853, and was called to the ministry in 1854. The family moved to Texas in 1860, Freestone County, where he resided until his death. It is said he was a shoe cobbler during the Civil War, making shoes for the Confederate States Army and returned to the ministry following the war. Barton Warren Acuff married Serena J. Randolph, dau of Robert and Clara (Barton) Randolph, l849, Serena was b. 18 Feb 1831, d. 22 Feb 1905, and is buried in Thornton (Texas) Cemetery, near her son Robert D. Acuff. She joined the Church of Christ at the age of 14. Their children: 1. Samantha Flvenia Acuff, be 31 Oct 1850, Tenn., d, 26 May 1921; m Andrew Boyd Carley. 2. Arvidina Iantha Arizona Acuff, b. 20 May 1854, MO. d. 28 Oct 1930; m. Caskey W. Terry. 3. Robert D, Acuff, b 3 Feb 1857, Mo., d. 10 Dec 1929; m. Hattie Elizabeth Clark. 4. Sarah Ann M. Acuff, b, 21 Mar 1859, Mo., d 7 Jul 1937; m. Marion Jackson Childs 5. Mary Virginia Acuff, b. 17 May1861, Texas, d 2 Oct 1923; m. John Andrew Tucker 6. James W, Acuff, b, A Jan 186A, Texas, d. ???? m Lelia, They are buried in Georgetown, Texas Cemetery. He was Church of Christ Evangelistic singer, married late in life. There were no children. 7. Cornelia Ophelia Acuff, b, 23 Nov 1865, Texas, d. 21 Feb 1935; mg Oscar R. Rasco. 8. Emma Cueenie Acuff, b. 5 Mar 1869, Freestone County; d 14 Mar 1871; Buried in Harrison Chapel Cemetery.
