Freestone County, Texas Biographies William Anglin (1821-1871) William Anglin was the born in 1821 (as inferred from censuses) and was the sone of Elisha. William married Sarah in about 1837 in Texas. William Anglin was recognized on the 1844 Tax List for Robertson County, Texas as fighting for Texas Independence in 1836-37. This same tax list shows him as 21-45 years old, married, and having two sons under the age 17. William appears in Precinct 1 in the 1850 Limestone Co., TX census as a 29 year old farmer with his wife Sarah (same age) with both being illiterate. Their two sons, Elisha (11) and William L. (7) are the only kids. The 1850 Limestone Co., TX agricultural census shows William as having fewer acres than his brothers, but still substantial: 30 improved and 170 unimproved. I could not find William Anglin with slaves on the 1850 Limestone Co., TX slave census so he must not have had any yet. The 1852 tax assessment for Freestone County, Texas shows William with a bunch of new property: 214 acres on one parcel, 1,107 acres on another parcel, and one slave. William does not appear on the 1851 or any other Freestone County, Texas tax assessment thereafter. So I do not know if the boundary lines of the county changed or what. The Freestone County Texas Marriage Book A has a William Anglin marrying a Catharine B. Hokit on 5 May 1852 by the Justice of the Peace Samuel G. Wills. But I am not sure this is the correct William Anglin, given the traditional dates of his children. I wonder if there are multiple people named William Anglin at this time. =================================================================== SOURCES: Tax List for Robertson County Texas 1844 by J[ames] L.
