Freestone County, Texas Biographies Andrew Boyd Carley Andrew Boyd Carley, b. 6 Jun 1836, d. 23 Apr 1890, was the son of John and Melissa Carley. He was born in Cape Girardeau County, GermanTownship, Missouri. He later moved to Miller County, MO. Andrew Boyd Carley is shown in 1860 census for Richmond Township, Miller Co., MO. When Civil War began, Andrew Boyd Carley and his brother, Smith W. Carley joined the Missouri State Guard, 60. "A", 1st Missouri Calvary, C.S.A., 21 Jul 1861. William T. Carley, another brother, joined Co. "E", 8th Missouri Infantry, 7 Aug 1862. Andrew B. Carley was appointed Sergeant-Major 9 Oct 1861, and appointed Major, field officer grade, 27 Dec 1861. Major Carley enlisted, 18 Jun 1861, and discharged May 1865. After the Civil War, the entire Carley Family, including the mother, Melissa (McHenry) Carley, moved to Pilot Point, Texas area and shortly thereafter, moved again to Freestone County, Texas, to what was known then as the Harrison Chapel—Brewer Prairie-Cotton Gin communities. There are numerous transaction documents, his Register to Vote, appointment as Notary Public, marriages performed as Justice of Peace and later as Church of Christ Minister and business transactions. Document naming A.B. Carley one of Trustees to build school building that would be used as a Church on Sunday. The meeting was held at Carley's Mills, 18 Jan 1872. After the move from Missouri to Freestone County, Andrew Boyd Carley's first wife, Hannah Flizabeth (Rhea) Carley died 23 Feb 1869. They were married 8 Jan 1860. Andrew Boyd Carley was dedicated to the ministry of Church of Christ, dated 2 Nov 1879. Marriage 1: Andrew married Hannah Elizabeth Rhea on 8 Jan 1860 in Miller County, Mo. Buried in Harrison Chapel Cemtery, Freestone County, Texas. Marriage 2: Andrew married Samantha Flvenia Acuff on 16 Nov 1870, Freestone County, Texas by Rev. Frank Compton, minister of Methodist Church, South. She was b. 31 Oct 1850 in Bledsoe County, Tenn., d. 26 May 1921, and buried beside her husband in Faulkenburg Cemetery, Groesbeck, Texas. Samantha was the daughter of Rev. Barton Warren Acuff and Serena J. (Randolph) Acuff. Andrew and Samantha had 9 children: 1. Felix Warren Carley, b. 25 Oct 1871 in Freestone County, Texas, d. 19 Mar 1933. 2. Clinton Darius Carley, b 16 Feb 1873 in Freestone County, Texas, d 28 Aug 1923, Buried in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Fort Worth, Tarrant Co., TX. Married three times, no ohildren. 3. Berton Williams Carley, b 24 Jun 1874 in Harrison Chapel community in Freestone County, Texas, d 5 Mar 1961 in same place. 4. Byron Andrew Carley, b 11 Apr 1876 in Harrison Chapel community in Freestone County, Texas, d 25 Aug 1877 in same place. 5. Marion Boyd Carley, b, 6 Jan 1878 in Harrison Chapel community in Freestone County, Texas, d 24 Feb 1953. Buried Geary, Okla., 6.
