Benjamin P. Ferrell

Before coming to Freestone Co., TX, Ben was in Greene Co., Alabama in 1850 for 
the census as a merchant. He is 42 while Gracy Ann was 32. Their five children 
are listed including their most recent, Roxana Virginia, age 1.
 
Benjamin P. Ferrell was the Baptist minister in Fairfield, TX from at least 1860 
to his death in 1870.  Ben is in Freestone County at least since 1854 according 
to the tax lists.  Ben is listed with his family in Fairfield in the 1860 Freestone 
County, Texas at 162/165 as a Baptist minister.  Ben is listed again with family 
in Fairfield in 1870 Freestone County, Texas at 150/150.  His daughter (Roxie 
Virginia) is buried at Cotton Gin as the wife of William F. Roberts.  His wife 
is Ann Gracy (Cleveland) Ferrell and she outlives him by many years and is buried 
in the Mexia city cemetery in adjacent Limestone County, Texas.  Ben is a slave 
owner in 1860 and one of his slaves, Argus, dies in 1860 in the mortality census.
