Freestone County, Texas Biographies Biography of Dr. James B. Gordon James was born in Fairfield, TX on 10 July 1866 to Sheriff Robert Alexander Gordon and Mary Bradford (Stover) Gordon. Dr. J.R. Alford of Hico sold out his drug store to James B. Gordon of Mexia who again is a citizen of our town. See FR Dec. 9, 1887. L.R. Boyd will be a partner with Mr. J.B. Gordon in the drug business purchased from Mr. Alford. See FR Dec 23, 1887. Boyd & Gordon now occupying the Sneed Building on the south side of the square. See FR 1887. Dr. James married Binnie Sandifer in Freestone Co., TX on 3 March 1895. Dr. James would serve as a drug store doctor, then move to Groesbeck and eventually return in October 1891. Dr. James returned to a store on the square that he eventually expanded. Then in 1906 James moved and opened a drug store in Teague. Later he purchased the Palace Drug Store in Teague. His son and grandson maintained the business for several generations: Lucian Green Gordon and Lucian Green Gordon, Jr. (Article in the Freestone Co History Book Vol. I, page 380). Dr. James died on 31 Oct 1927 in Fairfield. Dr. James is buried at Fairfield cemetery.
