Freestone County, Texas Biographies Biography of Dr. Augustus S. Harvey (Nov. 22, 1820 GA - Nov. 24, 1890, buried: "New" Antioch Baptist Church Cemetery (aka East Antioch) at Turlington community, Freestone Co., TX.) Augustus Harvey was born on Nov. 22, 1820 in Georgia. On Sep. 1, 1856, he married Sarah J. McClendon in Bradley Co., Ark. She was the daughter of Marvel K. and Temperance (Thomas) McClendon. They lived in Clay Township in Bradley County, Arkansas where he was working as a physician. Augustus and Sarah had only one son, Walter M. Bradley (nicknamed "Watt") who was born in Arkansas in 1858. When the Civil War occurred, Augustus served in Co. D, 9th Arkansas Infantry. After the Civil War, the family migrated to Texas about 1883. Walter married Mary Mollie (Thompson) Emmons Harvey. Dr. Augustus S. Harvey passed away on Nov. 24, 1890 in Freestone County, Texas. Not much is known about his medical practice or his medical training.
