Freestone County, Texas Biographies Biography of Bradley Carter Jefferson (Mar. 5, 1894-Dec. 16, 1964) Bradley Carter Jefferson Bradley was born March 5, 1894 in Fairfield, Texas to Walker Carter and Addie (Barnett) Jefferson. His father, Walker Carter, was the District Clerk of Freestone Co., TX. Bradley was educated in Alvin and in Port Arthur College. After college, Bradley served as the postmaster in Teague. Bradley began working at the Dallas Times Herald as a reporter in 1919. By 1926, he was the chief editorial writer. In 1944, Bradley became a board member on the board of the directors. In 1952, he became the editor of the Dallas Times Herald newspaper. Bradley was a member of Tannehill Lodge No. 52, Dallas, Texas and 32nd degree AASR (SJ) of that city. He was also a member of Hella Shrine Temple and Hi-Noon Club of Dallas. Bradley was married and had one son and one daughter. Dr. A. C. Jefferson of New Brunswick was his son. Miss Emily Ann Jefferson of New York City, New York. Bradley's first novel was "Fair Havens", published by the MacMillian Company of New York in 1948. "Fair Havens" was a portrait of East Texas. Bradley attended Highland Park Presbyterian Church and was buried in Restland Memorial Park in Dallas, Texas.
