    John Calvin McKinney


John Calvin McKinney, son of Dr. William David McKinney, born Dec. 1, 1855 in 
Purdy, McNairy County, TN., died Oct. 18, 1936, Freestone County, Texas.

Amanda Catherine (Kate) Mouser, born Mar. 29, 1858 in Angelina County, Texas, 
died May 8, 1927. They are buried in the New Hope Cemetery in Freestone County. 
Kate was the daughter of David Mouser and wife Sarah Brown.

John Calvin McKinney, married April 30, 1876 in Freestone County, Texas to Amanda 
Catherine (Kate) Mouser by the Rev. J. L. Blackwell. Kate had moved from Shelby 
County, Texas with some member of the Webb family to Freestone-County in 1875. 
John Calvin had met Kate at Milton Webb's home in Shelby County, so he came here 
and married, they went back to Shelby County and lived there until 1883, they then 
moved to Freestone County. They are buried in New Hope Cemetery, Freestone County, 
Texas.

The couple would have 12 children:
 
1. Bettie A. McKinney, born 1877, died 1882 in Shelby County, Texas.
2. Ida McKinney, born 1878, died May 1878 in Shelby County, Texas.
3. W. Herman McKinney, born 1879, died Jan. 1882 in Shelby County, Texas. 
4- Lonie McKinney, (girl) born 1880, died Feb. 1883 in Freestone County.
5. Arthur McKinney, born 1881, died Oct. 1883 in Freestone County.
6. Alfred James McKinney, born June 3, 1885, died April 25, 1952 at Wortham,
Texas. He married Beluah Kendall.
7. Henry Clay McKinney, born April 4, 1888, died Aug. 12, 1974, married Dec. 20,
1911 to Magdalene Berthelsen in Limestone County, Texas.
8. Clyde McKinney, born 1891, died Aug. 1892.
9. Bennie McKinney, born 1893, died Feb. 1894.
10. David Elmer McKinney, born June 3, 1894, died July 28, 1950, married Minnie
Augusta Chancellor, born June 23, 1896, died Feb. 24, 1965.
11. John Guy McKinney, born Dec. 29, 1896, married 1st to Birdie Kirgan, 2nd to
Mrs. Olga (Little) Cogdell, 3rd to Minta Clark.
12. Robert Lloyd McKinney, born Aug. 13, 1899, died 1956, married Cassie Lee
Wills, born 1903.
