Freestone County, Texas Cemeteries old Alford Family Cemetery by Eric Bonner Wood ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Status: Inactive since 1915 Background: Source - Mrs. Avis Eisen - "The old Alford family cemetery was located on the hill behind the old Lewis home place" located south of the Blunt/Blount community. There were no tombstones, only rocks, they have been moved by now and no one knows exactly where. The Alford family moved from the area in 1915. Called Alford Springs after the Alford family. The Alford family had cooling room on springs for vegtables and milk. Several families of Alfords living in Blunt during that time. Location - East of the southern part of the Fairfield Lake. East of the old Blount community. Across Myrtol Branch that feeds into Big Brown Creek. Directions - From Fairfield, go east on Highway 84 to Turlington. Turn left going north on CR 240 (Bugle Route Road) then turn left on CR 235 (Blount Rd.) continuing going north. Go past Brown's Hill. At sharp turn to right is the old Lewis homeplace. Go across Myrtol Branch that ultimately feeds into Big Brown Creek. Alford Springs should be there. Look at the Blunt/Young part of the old post office map on this website. Find Blunt and look south where it mentions Lewis. Find the Lewis corner (a sharp turn). Then it is to the east of the sharp turn. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- MARKED GRAVES: None UNMARKED GRAVES: Mrs. Avis Eisen: "At least three buried up there."
