Bennett got a land grant for one league in former Robertson County that later became on the dividing line of Freestone and Navarro County when they were formed from Robertson County. The house was in Navarro county and the barn in Freestone county. Joseph L. Bennett moved from Montgomery, Montgomery County where he lived as late as May 31, 1848 settling on his headright survey in Navarro/Freestone County. Joseph L. Bennett died at his home in Navarro county and was buried in Bennett Cemetery. His will was probated in Navarro County on October 30, 1848. A former land owner, Joe Burleson, bulldozed up all the headstones in 1971 to increase his pasture land. He and his wife split up after that. She took possession of the house and property.
