Freestone County, Texas Cemeteries Post Oak Cemetery (a.k.a. Post Oak Grove Cemetery) (at Post Oak community located south of Fairfield) ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- NOTE - There are two Post Oak Cemeteries in Freestone County. by Paula Snider and Eric Bonner Wood [NOTE - Update coming shortly] Status: Active Background: John Mims from Alabama bought land along Mims Creek here in 1855. Later others joined. Mrs. Nancy M. Daviss deeded one and helf acres on July 4, 1879 for the church [Q2, vol 20, pg 468]. William Wesley Riley gave an acre of his land for the cemetery after his arrival in 1878. The church discontinued services in 1968 since most of the members went to church in Fairfield. Across from the cemetery was the school house which was established by the Commissioner's Court on Sept 6, 1906 [vol 4, pg. 106] containing 18.5 square miles and was annexed by Fairfield Independent School District on Mar 30, 1949.
