DAILY AUSTIN REPUBLICAN, August 4, 1868, p. 2, c. 2 Judge Hancock stated in his speech on Saturday last, that there has been but one instance of opposition to the military authorities in Texas, and that took place sometime ago in Freestone county. . . . We would also inform him that at Tyler the officer in command has been for some time on the defensive, several of his men have been killed and reinforcements have been called for by the officer to enable him to hold the post.
