Freestone County, Texas Social News of 1912 (Communities around the County) Local News from Shanks *1* Feb. 19 - Little Pauline Smith has got the mumps. Breaking land and cutting stalks is the order of the day. Ellis Riddle and sister visited their sister, Mrs. Arthur Whatley at Shanks, Saturday. Bob Yarbrough's family has got the mumps, but not very sick. School started again last Monday, after being suspended several weeks on account of meningitis and mumps. Mr. and Mrs. Tom Moore are rejoicing over the arrival of a little boy. Will Nuecomer is visiting old friends here. C. W. Wolfe gave the young people a singing Saturday night and all report a nice time. Mrs. Susie Shumate gave a Valentine party Wednesday night, a large crowd attended. Mrs. Rose visited Mrs. Alice Rose, near Point Enterprise, Saturday and Sunday. We are sorry to say there have been several deaths in our community since Christmas.
