Stroud and Mr. and Mrs. John L. Bonner over the weekend and attended the graduation of their son Steve at Southwestern Baptist Seminary in Ft. Worth. Also attending were Mr. and Mrs. A.E. Bro. Lee Brown of Palestine preached Sunday at the New Hope Church in absence of Bro. Gaines. Mr. and Mrs. Freddie Halomik of Dallas spent the weekend with Mrs. Eddie Harris and they all attended supper at the lodge. Mrs. Edna Cross of Devers spent the weekend with her sister Leona Anderson. She left Sunday with Mrs. Anderson as she was picking up her grandsons, Brian and Todd from Baton Rogue, La. in Houston to spend a few weeks here with her. Mrs. Katherleen Burleson of Houston spent a few days last week with Mrs. Rash. Miss Connie Ferguson was honored with a bridal shower Saturday afternoon in the home of Mrs. Effie Robinson in Streetman. Mr. and Mrs. Emmett Ferguson are at home from Houston after spending some time there with their son. Mrs. Susan Buckanan and children of Oklahoma visited Mr. and Mrs. Jessie Bonner last week. Mr. and Mrs. Ruben Carrazal and sons and Curtis Collins of Houston spent a few days with Mr. and Mrs. M. C. Rhoden last week. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Anders and Charlie Anders of Houston and Jerry and Elaine Moore of Dew visited Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Platt during the weekend. Mrs. Berta Mae Baker of Dallas visited with Mrs. Lena McCary some while spending a few weeks at their home here. Mrs. Ora Pearl Roberts of Fairfield spent Saturday night with Mrs. Rash and went to the supper at the lodge. Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Sawyer of Canton visited Mr. and Mrs. Hollie Ellis recently. Mr. Sawyer and Mr. Ellis worked together for L.T.V. before Mr. Ellis retired. Mr. and Mrs. Billie Fitch got word Sunday morning that her daddy had passed away at his home in Fort Worth. Mr. and Mrs. Jessie Bonner attended a family reunion over near Mexia last Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Ellis and family from Mansfield visited his parents Mr. and Mrs. Hollie Ellis last weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Corkie Hagler and children visited his family in Kaufman last weekend. Mr. and Mrs. Hollie Elllis visited Mr. and Mrs. Truitt Cassteriens and Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Ellis at Mansfield Friday. -------------------------------------------------- [same issue - Page 10] Lone Star Community News The Lone Star, Lakeport, and Wildwood Community 4-H Club held their regular meeting last week. After a short business session the members engaged in workshop activites. Mrs. Sandra Cunningham gave a demonstration in the area of cooking. Information was given on simple measurements and cookie receipes. Mrs. Ella Mae Love supervised a group on recycling crayons for useful items. Mrs. B. F. Sandifer worked with group in crafts and small paper construction. Robert E. Jackson 4-H member and one of the leaders Mrs. Sandra Cunningham attended camp June 9-12 in Brownwood. Mrs. Princess McGautha and son Percy of Houston, Mr. James Pipkin and Mr. David Fields of Shreveport were guests of Archie Durhams during the holiday weekend. Twenty-three members of the Lone Star Baptist Church attended the Lebanon district Sunday School and B.T.U. Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Howard of Dallas, Texas, visited their grandmother Mrs. Evelyn Davis recently. Mrs. Carrie Alford is in Memorial Hospital in Palestine, still on the critical list. Miss Thelma Alford, daughter, Mr. Bosyie, grandson of Ft. Worth, relatives from Dallas, Midlothian, Ennis, Ft. Worth, visited in the home of their father Mr. Bosyie Alford, Sr. Mrs. Willie Ovan and family of Dallas visited their grandmother, Mrs. Maudie Allen recently. Mrs. Rose Shed, Mrs. Willie Bell Lewis, Miss Willie Nell Shed, Mr. and Mrs. Emzell Shed have returned from their vacation in Las Vegas. Mrs. Rose Shed and family also visited her sister Ethel Jean Shed and family visited their mother in the hospital in Grand Prairie recently. Mrs. Leola Turner is visiting her family in Dallas for a while. Mr. and Mrs. James Alford and daughter visited their mother Mrs. Frankie Terry recently. Hayes and James Willie Hayes of Los Angeles. Dr. and Mrs. W. B. Randolph and granddaughter, Angela of Houston were recent visitors in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Carlus Manning. Dr. Randolph is District Supt. of the Houston Northwest District of the United Methodist Church. Mrs. Elmira Vernon and son, Todd of Houston visited Mrs. Bernice Bryant the weekend. The annual "Men's Day" program was held at Union United Methodist Church, Sunday, July 16. Guest speakers were Guy Manning, Houston and Otis Wooten, White Rock Methodist Church, Lovelady. Other participants were Rev. J. W. Ratcliff, host pastor; Donroe Evans, Palestine; Roy Dixon, Los Angeles, nephew of Mr. and Mrs. A. D. Durham; Rev. W. E. Henry, Wilson Henry, Charles Allen and Lonzo Durham. Providing the music for the service were Mrs. J. W. Ratcliff and Mrs. A. D. Durham. Visitors were present from Jones Chapel United Methodist Church and Lone Star Baptist Church. Wilson Henry is chairperson of the Methodist men. Mrs. E. M. Durham spent the weekend visiting relatives and friends in Fort Worth. Visiting relatives in Austin recently were Mrs. Juanita Manning and Paula, Ms. Geraldine Manning, Fort Worth and Mr. and Mrs. Bradford Manning, Buffalo.
