The city complaint cited July 12 as the date she allegedly held herself to be a fortune-teller, displaying a photograph of a sign in front of her residence which advised that she gave "readings." The defendant, who was represented by Attorney Julius Jacobs, did not testify. ---------------------------------------------- Corsicana Daily Sun - April 2, 1956 - Page 12 A burglary of the residence of Annie Buchanan, negress, 100 block of East Seventeenth avenue, Sunday night was investigated by Sgt. She was Jimmy's prime source of ghost stories. The fiction appeared in the May Issue of Scamp Magazine, a men's publication, published in New York. ---------------------------------------------- The Mexia Daily News from Mexia, Texas Friday, January 18, 1963 - Page 1 One of the oddest tales about the late Annie Buchanan West, 70-year-old Negro woman who gained quite a reputation as a fortune teller, has to do with the late Col. Albert E. Humprhies, a wildcat oil operator from Denver, who drilled in the Mexia field. For almost half a century, fantastic stories have circulated about her prowess as a prophet. One concerns Col. Humprhies. According to the legend, he asked her where to drill for oil. He took her advice and brought in a gusher. Then gratefully he bought her a white, frame house in south Corsicana. Humprhies' gusher touched off the Mexia oil boom in 1926. Annie is buried in the Grove Island cemetery in Freestone County. ---------------------------------------------- Corsicana Daily Sun - Nov. 12, 1963 - Page 9 FOR SALE ANNIE BUCHANAN ESTATE Church, complete with seats, piano, etc. 5 lots, 1 D-room dwelling, 1 store building, 1 building complete with barbecue pit, new water heater, dish washing equipment and counter, one 1955 Ford 1 1/2 ton truck, 127 1/2 acres pasture with fair improvements at Mexia, 1 Coldspot freezer chest and 1 large 19 room house in Houston.
